I'm very clearly getting all of my releases confused, then. I should've checked before leaping to that conclusion, and I apologize for the error.

Numers are in....

Besides NT2 being 100%, 2 titles were in double digits.
V for Vendetta was 5%...selling twice as much as Short Circuit.

No surprise there, I saw 1 copy of V for Vendetta at 1 store, 0 at all the others, and 0 copies of Short Circuit (I had to get mine off Amazon).

I forget, do these %s count Walmart?

I saw V everywhere I went. Target alone had 10 copies on the front endcap.

Amazed to see NT1 only sell 1/4 of what NT2 did. Considering NT1 is a much better movie its a shame to see it so low. Not shocked since most people only buy day and dates and not catalog titles, regardless of quality.

It may be encouraging to see Twister sell 70% as many BDs as it did DVDs. V for Vendetta is expected since it came out so long ago, and it has somewhat limited appeal anyway due it having been released on HD DVD a while back. However, Twister is going up against a very recent DVD reissue. I'm not sure if that's good news for simultaneous BD releases, or if the DVD just sold so poorly (it is the third release, after all).

Does anyone have the market share numbers for Twister's first week?

Twister has been available on DVD for what, 10 years now? Not too shocking that people are not going to double-dip on it (on DVD) while Twister is brand new to Blu-ray. Twister was an amazing DVD that many bought to test out their fancy new DVD player and the same is going to happen for the BD version.

Blu-ray Disc Sales Hit 11 Million

According to Redhill Group, who compiled data for Home Media Magazine, over 11 million Blu-ray discs have been sold since the format launched in 2006. Sales have quadrupled since this time last year, and early sales data for May suggests that more titles have been sold in the first five months of this year than all of last year combined.

The top three selling Blu-ray titles so far this year, 'I Am Legend', '3:10 to Yuma', and 'No Country for Old Men' sold between 8-10% on the Blu-ray format, while sales of catalog titles continue to rise when compared to their DVD counterparts - up to 28% in some instances.

FYI, the news was posted on

before Blu-ray.com and others posted it. The site is the BDAs "official" unofficial website. Just saying

Speculation from blu-ray.com is National Treasure 2 sold around 240,000 copies. I suppose that includes the Amazon 2-pack. I don't think the figures are far off, considering the huge drop off between National Treasure 2 and the #4 selling movie.

$15 or higher as a delta is pretty extreme but browsing through the BD cases at, say, Wal-Mart, you see most titles at $15 (very few) to $25 (most/many) to $30 (very few). On the DVD side, most titles are $7.50 (many) to $20 (packed special editions).

I'll give some examples of titles I am thinking of getting:
Title (DVD vs BD) | MSRPs

Cloverfield ($16 vs $20) | $30 vs $40
There Will Be Blood ($16 vs $28) | $30 vs $40
Dirty Harry ($56 vs $90) | $75 vs $130
Juno ($16 vs $28) | $30 vs $40
Close Encounters ($29 vs $33) | $40 vs $50
PotC: Dead Man's Chest ($15 vs $20) | $30 vs $40
I Am Legend ($16 vs $19) | $29 vs $36

Now, Amazon's prices are very good on BD titles, but BD prices still seem to be at least 25% higher. If I could get them in stores consistently for $20 or less, I'd buy more.

Happy to hear some good sales news. Especially on the catalog titles. I want more older movies on Blu-ray.

Here's an interesting article...

http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniont...b2blu-ray.html

It certainly shows that there is at least some understanding among the Blu Ray group that it's going to take some time and patience to see this thing through.

Here's another interesting data point snapshot from Amazon.com:

Title/Blu-ray Sales Rank/Overall Sales Rank (Movies & TV)

Robocop 1/6
National Treasure 2: Book Of Secrets 25/119
Stargate (Extended Cut) 50/289
Layer Cake 75/584
The Spiderwick Chronicles 100/849

If National Treasure 2 got close to that 240,000 figure thrown around last week, then I would say it held pretty well in week 2, which means Rambo likely moved a solid amount of copies.
