Yeah, those are the three I want from them. I'd also like them to release Saturday Night Fever since it was cancelled last year.

Listed at DVDEmpire:

Afro Samurai: Season 1 Director's Cut 8/1
Helvetica 6/10 released 5/6

Looking forward big time to the Jack Ryans, hopefully individual as I'm only so-so on Sum of All Fears. But I'd buy the set in a heartbeat if I had to. Of course I already bought the UK BD of Beowulf.

I thought Helvetica was already out. High Def Digest posted their review a while ago.

Hmm, looks like you're right, as Amazon has it as a 5/6 release and in stock. DVDEmpire just put it up for preorder

Certainly looking that way. My UK disc has it and it's friggin awesome. I also had the HD DVD which was great with the DD+, but the BD was even better.

Hmmm - TrueHD and PCM on Transformers?

Are they trying to make a point about capacity? Seems like you don't need both.

I'd love to sell my somewhat rare Jack Ryan HD DVD set, but the pessimist in me says to wait until the BD's are actually in my hands. Hopefully they've done something to correct the transfer of Sum of All fears, which looked not so hot.

You don't need TrueHD and DTS-HD MA on one disc either, but Close Encounters... did it. As long as having both doesn't negatively impact quality any, go ahead and be redundant.

My only concern would be, on a film of this length, I'd rather they make sure the video encode doesn't get crowded by two lossless tracks, especially since it seems like interactive stuff will be there (Not sure how much that takes up).

I would think Transformers was a more difficult compression job than CE3K.

You kind of do need both, though, since many people don't have systems which can play one (or both) of those. They have to sell to a bunch of consumers whose players may not decode lossless audio and/or bitstream it to a receiver which will.

If thats true then they should be putting Uncompressed and TrueHD/DTS MA on all future release then. Fox seems more then happy to put DTS MA on all of their releases, before even a BD player could even decode it. Why not just dump the Uncompressed track in favor of the DD+ one from the HD DVD?

Going over the specs again, I see the DD+ track listed. I know some BD players can decode it, but I wonder why they're including that AND a standard 5.1 track?

It appears the listing may not be final. Seems almost retarded to include 4 different Audio tracks like that.

I thought of that -- honest. But remember also how so many people here were complaining that Fox should be including a TrueHD and/or PCM track because there weren't -- at that point -- any players that could decode DTS-MA?

To be sure, I think the inclusion of multiple lossless tracks is more of a "look what we can do" marketing gimmick. You must admit, though, that there is a level of convenience for the consumer -- whether or not it was intended by the studios -- when multiple formats of lossless sound are included on a given release. Some people have analog 5.1 (or 7.1) outs, some don't. Some have players that decode the advanced audio codecs (whether one or all), and some don't. Some have players that bitstream and some don't. Some have players that don't bitstream but can decode, yet have no analog 5.1 (or 7.1) outs.

That said, the inclusion of multiple choices does actually help at least some of their consumers, who wouldn't otherwise be able to play back lossless audio if they'd only been given one choice.

I hope the DD+ track, assuming it is 1.5Mbps, is left on, as that would an even easier way to compare it to the lossless tracks.

It could be a good thing, but then people might come to expect that from all of their releases and that would just be silly. IF the movie is on a 50GB disc, how much space will that Uncompressed and TrueHD track take up? If they couldn't fit a TrueHD on a 30GB HD DVD...can they fit it and an Uncompressed on a 50GB and not have the PQ suffer? Remember, the BD version was suppose to be 'optimized' for Blu-ray before it was canceled. I doubt Paramount had planned on both TrueHD and Uncompressed a year ago.

I'll wait for official specs. Does not matter to me as I'll be sticking with the HD DVD anyway.

DVD Empire has listings up for all 4 Jack Ryan films on BD for 7/29...looks like it may not just be Patriot Games and Sum of All Fears after all.

True, but a lot of sources have also been saying that it would only be Patriot Games and Sum of All Fears.
