Starship Troopers - July 29

www.blu-ray.com

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed that they will release both 'Starship Troopers' and 'Starship Troopers: Marauder' for Blu-ray on July 29th, the latter being day-and-date with the DVD release. No specs have been announced at this time, but expect the Sony usual 1080p AVC video encode with a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

Extras include BonusView material on both releases, featuring interviews, graphics, special effects information, and more. 'Starship Troopers' will feature all the content from the previous DVD release - which includes deleted scenes, several featurettes, audio commentary, a documentary, and episodes of the TV series "Roughnecks: The Starship Trooper Chronicles". 'Starship Troopers: Marauder' will feature two commentaries and two featurettes.

Yeah, but IF this turns out to be like, 'Stranglehold: Collector's Edition' with the "HD" version of Hard Boiled on it, you can count me out.

Yes! A great film. Released the same day as "In Bruges". I know there has been no official announcement for that one. But maybe that will be Blu-Ray too (?) Fingers crossed anyway.

FUNIMATION ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF ROBOTECH®: THE SHADOW CHRONICLES® ON BLU-RAY

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Definitive Collector’s Edition of Awarding-winning Film
Showcased in High-Definition Blu-Ray Disc™ Format

New York, NY, April 19, 2008 – FUNimation Entertainment, in collaboration with Harmony Gold, is proud to announce at this year’s New York Comic Con that it is bringing another title of next generation entertainment to the next generation format with the release of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles on Blu-ray disc.

“The Shadow Chronicles was originally produced in high-definition.” said Tommy Yune, director of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles. “That foresight is now paying off as the capabilities of Blu-ray technology will finally allow our fans to enjoy the film with that level of resolution in the comfort of their own homes.”

This animated feature length film is the latest exciting chapter of the Robotech saga. A heroic cast of returning characters, led by Scott Bernard and Vince Grant, fight to end a struggle against an enigmatic alien race known as the INVID. However, the mysterious disappearance of the legendary Admiral Hunter signals the arrival of a new threat that could tear apart our young heroes and threaten their very survival!

Featuring the voices of Mark Hamill (Star Wars) and Chase Masterson (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), the animation of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles also takes a generational leap into the future through a technological marriage of CG graphics beautifully composited with vibrant anime characters. This release showcases the original high-definition video, enhanced with a 5.1 digital surround sound mix, and an incredible musical score performed by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

Featuring the definitive catalog of extras to date, FUNimation and Harmony Gold have held nothing back as the Blu-Ray release will contain 20 minutes of new extra features along with all the extras previously released on the standard and collector’s editions, including a featurette about the award-winning film’s creation called “Birth of a Sequel: The Making of The Shadow Chronicles.” New features include additional never-before-seen deleted scenes with directors commentary, outtakes, animatics and more.

Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles (rated PG, extras not rated) hits shelves September 2, 2008 (SRP $39.98).

Per animeondvd.com...

Bandai Entertainment Hits Blu-ray (05:02 PM EDT): In a real surprising turn of events, Bandai Entertainment has apparently acquired the distribution rights to Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence through which they will be creating a new dub that will match the previous featues and TV series dubs. In addition to this, it will be getting a Blu-ray release as well as a DVD release. The Blu-ray release will be the first for the studio but no date has been given though 2008 is implied.

It is an utter travesty that Sweeny Todd is not on HDM. If any release warranted it, it was that one. I didn't pick it up on DVD but will pick it up on release date on HDM.

A mystery informant located deep within the bowels of Hollywood has given us information on the release date of The Dark Knight DVD and it looks likes it's coming just in time for Christmas.

On December 9th, 2008 expect The Dark Knight to hit store shelves and be a huge seller this holiday season.

I'm assuming whenever Paramount starts releasing (again) this would be one of their first. (along with Into the Wild, There Will Be Blood, etc) I think 3rd or 4th qtr is a pretty safe bet.
