Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

I hate that I have such bad timing ordering things online..

I ordered the Watchmen UC one day before after they ran out, had me chasing my own tail for a while hoping I'd get it.

And then I missed Bird with the Crystal Plumage. It was in-stock when I ordered it on Amazon, but the next day people were reporting it was out of stock, and I haven't seen an update on my order since.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but Daughters of Darkness (previously listed for 2/22 release) has been delayed a week until March 1.

In this interview with BD, Lustig mentions a July release for Torso and tentative plans for a Maniac Cop 2 special edition.

I would definitely jump on Maniac Cop 2. It was my favorite of the series.

Hopefully Torso will include some extras this time around. Synapse has hinted at a possible Maniac Cop Blu-ray, so it's possible we'll get both at some point soon.

As far as TORSO, will this be the same version on Blue Underground's regular dvd? Isn't that version CUT?

From the back of the dvd: "Now fully restored from the original negative materials, TORSO is presented completely uncut and uncensored on DVD."

Saw Lustig at a Maniac Cop 2 screening this past Tuesday. He said that he's trying his damnedest to get back the rights to the whole Maniac Cop series not only so that he can release them on BU, but also because he wants to make another sequel or remake and it would be better with full rights back on the films/characters. He says it's a tough fight and that the holders don't want to let go in hopes that they will bank on the titles someday...or get paid a ridiculous amount to release them. So, these "tentative plans" may take quite some time to finalize.

Lustig's personal print of the movie looked great on the big screen, btw.

I think you may be referring to this disclaimer, also on the back of the dvd:

"Portions of the English soundtrack were either never recorded or lost. These scenes are presented in Italian with English subtitles."

If I remember correctly, some of this does take place in the opening credits.

Screen captures of Daughters of Darkness at link below.

If these are even remotely reflective of the Blu-ray's actual appearance, this is one magnificent looking disc.

Not surprising that BD makes another stellar looking disc. I didn't love the film on my first dvd viewing, but the movie looking great and having an entire film with it as a feature that I've wanted to see is a great value and enough for me to buy it again

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

After last night's screening of Maniac, Lustig told me that the Larry Cohen films are probably going to be released in 2012. He also mentioned The 10th Victim as an upcoming Blu-ray title.

Last edited by NoirFan; 02-20-11 at 11:56 AM. Reason: Cohen films are coming in 2012, not 2011.

Wow, Daughters of Darkness looks great.

I'll have to add it to my list of BU BD's I still need to pick up.

Family Video seems to be the cheapest place to pre-order (other than Deep Red, which is $14.99 from Amazon), as most if not all of their BU titles are $16.99.
