Sony certainly doesn't have any incentive to go about lowering the prices on their players at this point.

I enjoy both of them but this really couldn't go on forever.
Again, as I stated, while I leaned Red, looking at my collection its pretty obvious I was in fact format neutral as much as possible. While I would have rather seen HD DVD win, its still OK that Blu-ray pulled ahead. I just fear the future of unknown pricing and profile mess that is going to happen.

Woah...the shit is hitting the fan on many places. I really feel bad for people that were REALLY Pro-HD DVD.
Some fun rumors....
Paramount is pissed about this and wants out of their contract.
Toshiba has canceled their CES event (confirmed) because Warner was ready to announce HD DVD exclusive TODAY, but change at the last hour. Literally.
This is going to be a pretty exciting weekend!

This is from the Digital Bits:
And our sources are now telling us that Universal - knowing Warner was about to go Blu-exclusive - has already begin taking steps to prepare for their own future Blu-ray efforts. Our guess is that Universal in particular will go format neutral, to put the best P.R. spin on their situation. But we'd be VERY surprised if all three studios don't announce their own Blu-ray Disc support by mid-2008 at the latest, so as benefit from 4th quarter holiday sales. In fact, we're betting those announcements happen much sooner.

See that sounds fishy. How would Universal have a feeling and knew about WB's impending jump when by ALL accounts, it was QUITE sudden.

Looks like the fire sale is starting already, checked Amazon.com and saw the following
Deer Hunter $7.99
Blood Diamond $9.99
Hot Fuzz $12.99
Knocked Up $12.99
Don't remember seeing those titles that cheap before

Honestly, I would LOVE IT if Toshiba did SOMEHOW send a firmware to accept BluRay. Like I said earlier....someone's gotta find a hack....unless there is a HUGE difference between the two formats.

However, I hope an incentive plan starts to get people over to Blu.

OTOH, I see a lot of problems coming from that Paramount/Toshiba deal that prolongs this even further.
