Apparently "Clockwork Orange" being 2 discs on HD DVD vs. 1 on Blu-ray was a "big deal", yet this is not?
Superbad is still a day 1 purchase for me. Its the #1 Blu-ray movie I am looking forward to this year.

In summary, 1 disc with high quality feature and extras is good.
2 discs with HQ feature on one extras on the other is equally as good.
1 Disc with HQ feature and NO extras is sort of lame
1 Disc without a HQ feature is crap.
This would go for either format.

I'm sure the BDA war room is in overdrive today.

The last thing they wanted was seeing hardware prices fall into the toilet this soon.

Senior VP of Product Planning at Pioneer and Chair of the BDA Promotions Committee Andy Parsons confirmed on Monday that the profile previously known as "Profile v1.1" or "Full Profile" shall henceforth be known as "Bonus View". The move was made to ease consumer confusion regarding the recent change in Blu-ray requirements as new "Bonus View" titles like Lionsgate's 'War' and Fox's 'Sunshine' get launched early next year.

I think all in all we need to thank BDA and the HD-DVD consortium because without them none of this would have been possible. I never thought we'd see a $99 dollar player in less than two years. Bravo for competition!!

Great news! Life of Brian is back on....

Specs (and a New Date) Revealed For 'Life of Brian' Blu-ray
Thu Nov 01, 2007 at 03:17 PM ET

After being elbowed out of the studio's Q4 line-up not once but twice, the boys of Monty Python will finally invade Blu-ray this January with an 'Immaculate' set of newly-discovered extras.
Like something right out of a Python movie itself, the tortured saga of 'Life of Brian's Blu-ray release began last August, when Sony first announced a November 6 arrival for the comedy classic on Blu-ray. That date was subsequently bumped back two weeks to November 20, only to be completely yanked from the schedule a few days later, with no new announced street date.
Now, Sony has finally re-scheduled both the Blu-ray and DVD edition, which will debut day-and-date on January 29. Wryly dubbed the 'Immaculate Edition,' the studio says 'Brian' will contain a host of never-before-seen bonus features.
Identical to both the Blu-ray and DVD will be a brand-new documentary "The Story of Brian," a newly-discovered feature-length recording of the first full-length read through of the 'Life of Brian' script, five digitally-enhanced deleted scenes; newly-illustrated radio spots promoting the theatrical release; and two full-length audio commentaries featuring Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, John Cleese and Michael Palin.
Tech specs for the BD-50 dual-layer Blu-ray release include 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and audio tracks in both uncompressed PCM 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround.
Sony has set a suggested retail price for the Blu-ray of $28.99.

Sony Plans Blu-ray Player Price Drop; Profile 1.2 Players On the Way?
Fri Nov 02, 2007 at 02:25 PM ET

It looks like the 40GB PS3 won't be the only Sony Blu-ray player to dip below $400 this holiday season.
That's the word from Sony Electronics president Stan Glasgow at the end of week that saw widespread pricedrops for Toshiba's entry-level 1080i HD DVD players.
Glasgow's comments came during a twice-a-year media roundtable in New York, where according to published reports, the exec said that it expected prices for its standalone players to drop by 20 percent or more this holiday to around $399.
As for speculation that the company's standalone player prices could decline even further, Glasgow says don't count on it. TWICE Magazine quotes the exec as saying "I don’t expect it to go much lower than that."
Responding to word of Panasonic's first Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player (which is due to ship next week), Glasgow said a firmware upgrade would be made available for certain existing Sony Blu-ray players that would enable some 1.1 features.
The exec went on to say that Sony was planning its own new players for next year with "possibly 1.2" features.
