Borat -Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is coming to Blu-Ray on 3/6 according to Amazon. First I've heard of this, but if so

Thanks, just ordered it!

It can't be that cheap. Someone on AVS mentioned the UPC is the same as the UMD, so I'm thinking they mistakenly listed that as a BD. I'd love to be wrong about this though, and I expect them to release this as it is a popular title. Unless they're planning a quick double dip on DVD, this should be day and date.

It does say Blu-Ray though as the format (right under "no image available") & the SD is priced at $15.99 , $4.00 cheaper, so I think it's legit. Anywho, I pre-ordered anyways just like I do with every Amazon title I may want, just to have it in the pipeline. If I later decide that I don't want it, I'll just cancel the order by the weekend before it's scheduled to ship.

Borat in HD? I would avoid it in HD for the fight scene alone. [shudder]

UMD? Sony still makes those?

Yes, they and Fox are still actually doing some new release titles.

I still think this is an error by Amazon. It will be interesting to see if they honor the price when and if the disc is announced. The DVD is priced cheaper, but the MSRP is the same. I just doubt that Fox, of all studios, is ready to price BDs the same as DVDs.

Amazon is currently listing a UMD version for Casino Royale, as well.

Also, DVD Empire is showing The Natural: Director's Cut for a 4/3 Blu-Ray release.

More new Blu-Ray preorders at DVDEmpire:

Chicken Little 3/20
Identity 4/3
Warriors of Heaven and Earth 4/3

I assume no extras?

matome 01-22-07 04:39 PM

Nothing listed, but you can't go by them for full specs. The Departed has no extras listed either, even though it does have them.

The only real extra on the DVD was a 40-minute or so documentary hosted by Cal Ripken Jr. I can't imagine them leaving that off with the publicity over Ripken's Hall of Fame induction. In fact, it may be the reason the title was chosen for release now.

And the movie was crap. But that doesn't matter if it's HD, does it? ;)

My thoughts exactly. Talk about having way too much pride in a format that's proven to be a financial failure...

Thelookandsoundofperfect.com has cover art for The Jerk on HD DVD. No release date and it's a combo. Looking forward to it, though.

That's a pretty substantial extra.

Artman 01-23-07 12:47 AM

Yes it appears Sony isn't as consistent with the extras as I thought... about 45 or so minutes of extras supposedly left off Big Fish is a big letdown. Cross that one off the purchase list...

Yeah, so they should include that, especially with the Hall of Fame induction.

However, from info on AVS it appears to be something they're releasing along with a new DVD, so who knows what we'll get?

The return of Universal with ....

Grubert 01-23-07 05:22 AM

That's right.

The Game and The Jerk announced for April 17: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=63855

Too bad The Game doesn't get the Fincher commentary or bonus materials from the R2 special edition.

I couldn't care less about the bonus materials. I'm just glad to finally have a decent, anamorphic transfer of the movie.

Hammer99 01-23-07 06:44 AM

The Jerk, excellent... keep 'em coming Universal!

I for one do, especially since the R2 release has some pretty cool ones. Let's get on the ball Universal.

Why is it that other regions often times get better editions than R1?
