I read absolutely nothing into that, other than the fact that the upheaval might yield even more HD DVD releases, or changes to the currently proposed ones.

Yeah the upheaval was mentioned in another thread here, but the new dude was quoted as saying they're going to ramp up HD DVD and really concentrate on the format.

There's got to be one in every crowd.

Where is Scarface?

American Pie isn't on there either. Obviously it's not a complete list.

There's about a half a dozen in there that I'll gladly pick up. But...I'd like some more, please.

Nice Universal news... I'm getting a ton of those titles and am really excited about Frighteners, Big Lebowski, Bruce Almighty, In Good Company, Darkman, Heroes, BSG and all the day and date new releases (breach, hot fuzz, knocked up). Decent slate.

I was thinking that "American Me" was just a typo for American Pie, but it's an actual movie from Universal. Huh...seems like a random title (but then, it's not like Monty Python's The Meaning of Life screams out for an HD transfer, either, but it's still good news).

darkside 03-01-07 04:41 PM

I'm in for 8 or 9 of those. Really was hoping for some better announcements than those titles. Not much to look forward to until the Fall.

Yes, in one article I've read, Ken Graffeo is the new VP of the Home Entertainment Division. He's in charge of HD DVD and has criticized BD recently. Craig Kornbleau still oversees all of Universal's Home Entertainment and he is 100% behind HD DVD. Unfortunately, The Digital Bits looks to be easing back into their real name, The Blu Bits.

Mr. Cinema 03-01-07 05:08 PM

This mentions a HD DVD release of The Fountain, which looks to be day & date with the dvd on May 15.

Not too bad. I'm in for:
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Big Lebowski
Lost in Translation
Mallrats
Being John Malkovich

Grubert 03-02-07 12:04 PM

Dreamgirls HD DVD and Blu-ray for May 1.

Mr. Cinema 03-02-07 12:23 PM

I'll blind buy Dreamgirls. This is a film that should really benefit with 1080p resolution. It won the Oscar for Sound Mixing and certainly has the spiffy visual look.

Id rent it first if I were you. I wasnt impressed personally. I think it was overrated (and obviously so did the academy ;)). Jennifer Hudson was really the only good part about that movie.

We'll need dual 1080p action to get the best look at Jennifer's Hudsons. :)

Yep. Dreamgirls was dreadful. Definitely NOT a good blind buy.

Some of us thought it was the best movie of 2006.

Many people loved this movie, but I found it dreadful as well. Those same people made me buy that awful wine drinking movie as a blind buy as well come to think of it.
