Should sound amazing as well. It was nominated for both Sound Mixing and Sound Editing.

not impressed with Universal's choice of titles, but hopefully this is just the start of more major releases.... Apocalypto would be a must own for me if I had blu-ray (by May, who knows, I might).

BravesMG 02-27-07 10:44 AM

Wow, as desperate as I am for new HD-DVD stuff, those Universal releases are pretty sad. I never got around to seeing Skeleton Key (and probably for good reason), so maybe a Netflix, but that's hugely underwhelming. These release batches (poorly received as they are) are just coming more slowly and slowly, I'm not a big doomsayer or anything and it's still WAY too early here, but these releases are the one thing that give me a twinge of worry. These movies seem destined to show up in whatever HD-DVD bargain bin ever materializes.

Mr. Cinema 02-27-07 10:46 AM

I liked Skeleton Key, but not sure if I liked it enough to own it in HD. Maybe...

True_Story1011 02-27-07 10:50 AM

Just a better reason to start looking at INTERNATIONAL HD's! :)

bunkaroo 02-27-07 04:10 PM

Damn, 0 for 5 on the Uni announcements in the last week for me. At least I still have Children of Men, The Game and Eternal Sunshine to look forward to.

lotsofdvds 02-27-07 04:32 PM

I'll get Smokey and the Bandit and The Hurricane. I love those two. The Skeleton Key, not so much.

Smoking Aces: Hd Dvd -4/17/07

Universal Home Video has sent over early details on Smokin' Aces which stars the likes of Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta, and Alicia Keys. The release date has yet to be confirmed I'm afraid, although from what we understand - the disc will be available from the 17th April. As well as an anamorphic widescreen presentation, and English Dolby Digital 5.1 track - the disc will include an alternate ending, around twenty minutes of deleted scenes, outtakes, and more. We'll bring you further details shortly. A HD DVD/Combo release will also be available for around $39.98 or thereabouts.

Very cool. A pretty good movie - if you like very stylized violence.

jdslater1 02-28-07 01:39 AM

Im in, enjoyed the hell out of it!

Mr. Cinema 02-28-07 06:29 AM

I passed this one in theaters, but I'll probably blind buy it. I love the cast and Joe Carnahan (Narc). Also nice to have a quick turnaround from the theatrical release.

The Bus 02-28-07 07:56 AM

I'm torn. It's a decent movie and it will benefit from HD but as always I am reluctant to pay combo prices.

stingermck 02-28-07 08:21 AM

Yes, just saw this last week, bring it!!

Grubert 02-28-07 08:42 AM

Apocalypto (Blu-ray) up for May 22 on dvdpacific.

matome 02-28-07 08:54 AM

That's a definite buy for me along with Donnie Brasco.

Wow.

Other than the Bourne Identity, im unimpressed. Its great that they are releasing titles, but seriously, there is only a handful there that I will buy.

Where is Scarface?

I posted this at the exact same time in the 100 titles from Universal thread. Anway, I am really looking forward to Lost in Translation and Meet Joe Black.

The bits also mentioned standard DVD released for The Birds: Legacy Series and Psycho: Legacy Series in September. Hopefully, those titles will get released on HD in Q4.

Not bad. A quick count shows me getting 20 of those as DVD replacements, with a handful more as definite rentals.

And they just had to throw this in at the end:

As of now, all the above titles are HD-DVD only, but we've learned that there's some "executive upheaval" going on in the studio's home video division right now, so things could change.

Well if you ask me, Blu-ray's release slate has even fewer decent titles. People wanted movies from Universal, and that's what they're getting.
