You can do in-store pickup if they have the items in stock at a local store.
Right. I completely forgot about that.

Speedy's post of the new BEst Buy ad for May 20 has the HD-A2 for 299.99 - the magical under $300 everyone is always talking about. Plus you get 2 free HD DVDs if you buy a player and the Matrix.

Toshiba Offers $100 Rebate on New HD DVD Players

The HD DVD Promotions Group today announced that Toshiba will be offering a month-long $100 rebate on new HD DVD players, bringing the entry-level list price for a stand-alone HD DVD player to a record-low $299.

Beginning this Sunday (May 20th) and continuing until June 16th, consumers buying Toshiba's HD-A2 model player will receive an an instant, in-store rebate of $100. During the final week of the promotion (from June 10th through June 16th), Toshiba will extend the $100 rebate to any Toshiba HD DVD player, and will offer an additional $100 rebate to consumers purchasing both an HD DVD player and a 42 inch (or larger) Toshiba HDTV.

The HD DVD group says the rebate will be available across a wide range of retailers, including Best Buy, Circuit City, HHGregg and Amazon.com.

Consumers taking advantage of this Father's Day-timed rebate are also eligible to choose five free HD DVD titles (from a selection of fifteen), as part of a previously-announced promotion, which ends July 31, 2007.

Looks like Best Buy is diving right into this rebate deal. Next week's circular features a Toshiba A2 for $299. Plus the 5 free movies from Toshiba:

Plus Best Buy is giving 2 free films (your choice, excluding sets) if you also purchase The Matrix on HD DVD along with the player.

$380 for an HD DVD player, the Matrix Trilogy, and 7 other HD DVDs.

Any fence sitters may want to consider standing up.

Does this mean the A2 will drop below $200 on Amazon?

That's pretty amazing, if so.

Amazon.com has lowered the pricing on the Complete Matrix Trilogy to $63.95. With the 10% discount, the price is $57.55.

Looks like the Ultimate Set is now $73.95

I assure the Royal penis is clean but you would never get for under $10, that would be giving it away!

Coming to America HD however you might get for that!

That UPC (097361222929) is absolutely for the standard definition version. Unless people want to deal with returns, I wouldn't order.

Are there two versions of Coming to America on standard def coming out on June 5th?

Amazon and DDD list the UPC for the standard def SE as 097361222943.

Don't know, but FYE and Barnes & Noble both have that UPC (097361222929) as the standard def SE. Paramount sometimes releases two (identical) versions of titles -- one regular and one "checkpoint" for retail. That may be the case here. Two UPCs, identical DVDs.

The UPC for the HD DVD seems to be 097361246246.

Speedy has posted the ads for Best Buy running from 5/27-6/2. They are offering another HD DVD sale:

Buy 2 titles, save $10
Buy 3 titles, save $20

Saving $20 on 3 might not be that bad, but in my experience saving $10 on 2 is just going to bring them down to Circuit City's (everyday) price.

Potc

I don't recall it being mentioned but Fye is starting to issue rebates on their HD and BD material. This week POTC 1&2 is $20.99 each after rebate.

This was too good of a deal to pass up. I wasn't in the market for any of this stuff since I already have an HD-A1 player, but here's the deal.

Toshiba HD-A2 player is $237.88 right now.

If you buy the Ultimate or Complete Matrix HD-DVD sets, you get two HD-DVDs for free from a 6-page list they have on their site. There are quite a few new releases, which surprised me. I went with:

Letters from Iwo Jima HD/DVD Combo - $27.95
Army of Darkness HD/DVD Combo - $23.95

Ultimate Matrix HD-DVD set is $73.95

Here's the fun part...since I bought the HD-A1 from Amazon last year, I get 10% off all my HD-DVD purchases, so I actually get 10% off those 2 free titles as well as the Ultimate Matrix. It works out to almost $13 off, on top of the $52 that gets deducted for the two HD-DVDs I picked. Essentially, the Ultimate Matrix set is $60 at that point and the two HD DVD's are free.

The combined total was $299.24, and shipping is free for the time being. Here's the breakdown:

Subtotal of Items: $363.73
Shipping & Handling: $17.62
Promotion Applied -$12.59
Super Saver Discount -$17.62
Promotion Applied -$51.90
------
Total for this Order: $299.24

It's an absolutely insane deal IMO, and I got another 5 free HD-DVD titles on top of that. My HD-A1 will be going up for sale shortly on Ebay unless anyone here is interested in purchasing. Works great, but obviously I won't need two players.

That's a really nice deal. I'm content with my 360 add-on until a cheaper dual format player comes out or if the add-on dies.

Being a Pioneer person myself, I was a bit upset as well. Onkyo is supposed to have an HD DVD player coming out sometime. I would not worry about the Toshiba players, I have always had good luck with Toshiba products and my A1 has performed very well.

don't get me wrong I have nothing against the Toshiba players, but I find rather intestering that they'd be on the only with actual players and that no one else has stepped up to the plate (so to speak).

especially with the format being out for over a year and having some recent high profile titles, such as The Matrix trilogy, which is capable of selling players.

Toshiba is so hell-bent on driving down the cost of their players that they have effectively removed any margin another manufacturer would hope to see from producing an HD DVD player. So, it really isn't a wonder to me that Toshiba continues to be the only HD DVD manufacturer regardless of market penetration or catalog.
