With the 10% discount and lack of sales tax, Amazon comes in about $1 more than Best Buy. For the convenience and the principle of not paying tax, the extra buck at Amazon doesn't make a bit of difference for me.

I hate combo discs, but if new releases are priced at $22.99, I will buy them. Just like I did for The Departed today. It also proves that you can get a good deal at Best Buy.

Ran, Mulholland Drive and Brotherhood Of The Wolf are available to preorder from some of the UK sites (HMV, ChoicesUK etc). The French ones are up for preorder at Amazon France, FNAC and a few other places.

I ordered T2 and Brotherhood of the Wolf (or should I say Le Pacte Des Loups) from amazon.fr.

Total with express shipping was EUR60.08 (about $78).

Im not sure, but just as an fyi...my total was like this...

T2 EUR20.89
BOTW EUR20.89
Express shipping (5 days I think) EUR18.30 ($24)

The standard shipping (12 days I think) was about half that price. I might could have found a better deal at another site, but I really wanted these on the same order (due to shipping) and amazon had all my info saved (made the french checkout MUCH easier to navigate).

After shipping, this makes them $39 each. Not bad for 2 movies that I really, really love. I wouldnt spend this on many movies.

Ill ebay my 3 disc CE of Brotherhood of the Wolf to contribute to the cost.

I was going to use the Paypal $15 back deal at Buy.com. The movie I wanted went from $19.95 to over $26.

No, Forbidden Planet. Amazon still has it for $19.95, but I can't figure out what else I want to get for free shipping.

Just got back from Best Buy. They have a promotion this weekend on all open box home theater equipment where they will give you 30% of the price back on a gift card. They had 4 OB Samsung BD Players which would have ended up being $560 and $240 for a gift card. YMMV

$560 for an open box? are you sure??

I remember going to BB about a month or so ago. They told me that an open box would be about the same as a closed one.

You pay a total of $800 and they give you a $240 gift card. If you can find something else for $200 you can also get 0% interest for two years. Well worth spending the extra money and getting another toy.

That's very different from what you originally said.

$800 plus $240 as opposed to $560 plus $240.

Aren't the Samsung BD players already $799.00 to start? If so, then John's $560 claim is accurate. I think he means if you can find something else for an additional $200, then for ~$800 you get 0% interest for 2 years + $240 gift card.

And that's how much an open box version is. They don't even discount any more. They just throw a gift card at you. Pathetic.

OK there seems to be some confusion with what I was saying (no doubt caused by Best Buy's new method of open box sales). Let me see if I can clear that up.

The Open Box price is the same as the regular price, $799
If you purchase one of these units they will give you 30% back on a gift card, so $240
Best Buy's accounting method for this is to discount the BD player to $560 and then add on the $240 gift card.

I know the open box price sucks, but who here isn't going to spend $240 at Best Buy in the near future?

They are also giving 0% interest for two years on all purchases $999 and up. So on the same purchase if you find an additional $200 on hmoe theater items you can get that instead of the 90 days you would normally receive. Personally, I would rather spend the extra $200 and be able to keep my $1000 invested and building interest for two years than to pay $800 cash up front.

Hope this helps

You can get a refurbished unit for less than that and not have to worry about ever shopping at best buy.

Meijer in the midwest has a coupon for 20% off general merchandise for Sun/Mon. They have a small selection of HD-DVDs and BDs for $19.95.
