Yeah, but it makes sense for them to be hybrids.
Actually, with Syriana being the longest of the "new" releases (126min), maybe they couldn't fit it on a 15GB disc without compromising image quality, so they are doing a 30GB regular HD DVD release.

Universal Studios Home Video have announced their first dual format HD-DVD/DVD Combo titles with National Lampoon’s Animal House and Unleashed arriving on 8th August 2006. Priced at $34.98 SRP each these double-sided discs offer HD-DVD on one side and Standard Definition DVD on the other. Extras from the standard DVD editions will also be included.
In other HD-DVD news today Universal Studios Home Video have announced that from 8th August their HD-DVD titles released between April and July will be reduced to $29.98 SRP (from $34.98 SRP).

The compressionist for Batman Begins said his test discs are going for approval this week.
He's at AVS and seems like a nice guy. Said he hasn't seen anything about the Matrix yet...so that might not be until the Fall. I'm betting Christmas.
