Pretty intense to go from a NON-ANAMORPHIC dvd to an HD source.

Can't wait to own Backdraft. Never bought the original DVD.

Looking forward to Conan as well.

I wonder how many versions of "Army" will we see on HD-DVD

Anchor Bay's not diving into HD DVD yet, so we should be safe. :D Universal HD has shown Army... in high definition, and it looked great, so...definitely interesting in grabbing this on HD DVD.

Universal should call it AOD: "The Last Version You'll ever Own" Edition.

digitalfreaknyc 05-25-06 12:18 PM

Someone on AVS just got an email from Amazon saying the BD titles are being delayed until 7/30.

It should be noted that Amazon routinely delays titles due to their own supply issues. This doesn't necessarily mean that the actual street dates for those discs have been pushed back.

Until the 4K version.

30 or so movies I'd buy without hesitation.

So many more double dips ahead of me. Can't wait. I'm going to wear that 10% discount at Amazon out. I'm really looking forward to getting titles I either skipped or had trouble with on Universal DVD-18s.

Firstly, a list without dates doesn't carry a lot of weight. Secondly, some of the titles listed aren't even going to be released theatrically before 2007 (some haven't even gone into production). And finally, some of the titles listed are going to be released in Europe only.

More marketing spin/bullshit.

I saw a list of titles from a fairly believable source -- just as I would more-or-less buy a list of "coming soon!" titles from a website from a Blu-ray partner -- and posted it. I'm not making any claims as to the veracity of the list (although I doubt Microsoft is pulling these titles out of its ass) or making any assumptions on release dates. No personal slight was intended, but if you don't want me posting these sorts of messages in this thread, I can start a 'rumored HD DVD/Blu-ray releases' thread instead.

Well, after raising the price to $25.99 they now have it in stock and have dropped the price of Blazing Saddles to $19.99. I ordered mine today. Combining the 10% discount with the regular Amazon 1.57% discount scores the Warner titles for $17.71. Double dip number 4 is complete.

Maybe we should have separate HD DVD and Blu-Ray release threads. Afterall, they are 2 different formats. The video game forums don't combine the gaming systems. And I really don't care what's coming out on Blu-Ray at this time. I'm only focused on HD DVD releases.

Grubert 05-26-06 07:39 AM

Adam,

I have no problem with having rumoured titles here, as long as they are indicated as such. ;)

It's easy - Just don't look at the blu stuff. :)

The aim of this calendar is helping the actual or potential user to know what titles will be available, and in what conditions. Thus, any owner of an HD DVD or BD player will be know what he can buy, just by focusing on the appropriate color. Additionally, any people who hasn't bought into any format yet can use this information if the range of titles available is a factor in his decision.

When Blu-ray launches, I'll have new colours for titles available on both formats.

Mr. Cinema 05-26-06 07:53 AM

So as of right now, still nothing coming out Tuesday from Universal or WB? I never considered Paramount's titles coming out on the 30th. My understanding was they were scheduled for 6/20.

Has anyone watched Bourne Supremacy yet? I just got it yesterday but haven't had a chance to watch the HD yet. I'm curious about that HD extra it comes with. "Instant Access"

Instant access is a video commentary. It basically has video interviews and making of segments running the ENTIRE length of the movie. They'll show "making of" clips for the exact scene you're watching and have commentary from everyone for those scenes as well. Kinda like an interactive commentary.

New Universal titles for August just announced:

Ray - 8/8
The Bone Collector, The Interpreter and Spy Game - 8/22

Cool list on MS....definately alot of great titles that I would buy. I wonder why they dont seem to be releasing all the Matrix films together?? I know these are just initial lists, but you rarely see the other 2 listed with the Matrix.

August is cute but what the fuck happened to June?!?!? :) :)

They've announced Happy Gilmore and The Rundown for June, but I'd hope we'd see more than just two titles from Universal in one month. (Actually, we only know 8 movies for the next three months from Universal, and half of those don't come out until August!)

*sigh*
I give up. It MUST be because they're scared of BD. First Paramount. Now this. :(

Re: The Paramount delay:

The Microsoft VP said this on AVSforum today:
"Even though I know the answer, I am not at liberty to say anything. But this is what I will do. I tell you what it is not, which is basically all the reasons mentioned in this thread . It has nothing to do with PS3, BD vs HD DVD, Toshiba player (issues, retail, etc.)."
