I'll be playing the opening credit sequence over and over. I can't wait to see this in HD.

Adam Tyner 06-29-06 02:36 PM

In case you're looking for an update about HDNet's HD DVDs:

1) They start shipping next week.
2) They're encoded using MPEG-2 but at a bitrate higher than broadcast (19-24 Mbps)
3) All titles are $14.95.
4) The initial titles are the ones mentioned earlier -- two volumes each of Get Out! and HDNet World Report.
5) World Extreme Cagefighting is next on tap, with Bikini Destinations, True Music, and World Music Café to follow.
6) Some of Magnolia Pictures' movies (Bubble, Enron, etc.) are to follow.

More on AVS.

Thanks. Done. I've put them on July 4 because it's Tuesday, but don't take it as it will be actually released on that exact date.

Adam Tyner 06-30-06 08:47 AM

Apparently Universal's two titles for 10/3 (Army of Darkness and Fast Times at Ridgemont High) have been bumped to 10/10.

Mr. Cinema 06-30-06 09:31 AM

The Blu Bits has updated their cover art section. They have Inside Man for an 8/8 release. I'm hoping the HD DVD is the same day.

Inside Man is Universal, and Universal isn't doing new releases on HD DVD yet.

Adam Tyner 06-30-06 11:26 AM

Yeah, the rumor goes that The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift will be their first day/date title. Hopefully they'll pop it out quickly 'cause I'm really hoping to see Slither on HD DVD this October.

Adam Tyner 07-01-06 08:46 AM

BCI re-chimed in with an announcement of some HD DVD releases:

8/29 -- That's the Way of the World (Harvey Keitel, Earth Wind and Fire; original mono soundtrack, DD Plus remix; commentary, still gallery, TV spots, collectible booklet)

9/12 -- Galaxina (audio commentary, interviews, still gallery, two complete scripts, a 20 page collectible booklet) and Golgo 13 (Sonny Chiba; uncut Japanese version, trailers)

Other Sonny Chiba movies are coming in Japanese with English subtitles and optional English dubs.

Other titles include seven movies from Paul Naschy (including Night of the Werewolf and Vengeance of the Zombies) and a Bob Hope Collection including Road to Rio, Son of Paleface, and The Lemon Drop Kid.

All titles carry an MSRP of $24.98. Their first Blu-ray releases will be ready in time to make the PS3 launch.

some new RUMORED release dates for WB:
- T3/Under Siege: July 18
- Troy/Searchers: August 01
- Dirty Dozen: August 15
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: August 22
- Batman Begins/Harry Potter GoF: August 29

Mr. Cinema 07-05-06 09:13 AM

I hope T3 is out on the 18th. July is a sloooow month for releases.

Batman and HP 4 on the same day sounds good to me.

RockStrongo 07-05-06 09:18 AM

Id probably buy all of those listed.

At the very least, I would get Troy, T3, BB, HP and CATCF.

Do you hear that WB?!? So release these already!

Mr. Cinema 07-05-06 09:29 AM

An article I read recently said that the new release/day & date titles seemed to be selling better now than catalog titles, although I think the launch titles have done well for HD DVD.

This format will only get better when the big Summer movies come out like Superman Returns, M:I 3, and Over the Hedge. And the mid sized movies like V for Vendetta and Inside Man. Hell, I'll even include Poseidon. It'll do better on home video anyways.

Yeah, I read that too....I think thats a given though....I would think more people will be interested in the new titles versus upgrading ones they already have. Makes sense to me.

Mr. Cinema 07-05-06 09:33 AM

The more titles the better. It's a nice sight when I stop in Circuit City and see about 35 HD DVD titles all together. Just a sea of red. I think when Christmas rolls around is when we'll all have a good idea of how these formats are going to do.

Man, I was hoping big time for a HD DVD of The Searchers. So glad I held off on the new DVD. I'm buying a big chunk of that list.

I hope they fix the possible color issue with The Searchers on this release...supposedly the latest release has a yellow tint to it.

Eric D. 07-05-06 01:32 PM

It's nice to see T3 being released so soon, but I hate having Batman Begins at the end of the summer.

Adam Tyner 07-06-06 06:31 PM

More HDNet HD DVDs, if you're curious what's coming eventually.

Desperate for something. New releases, more announcements...something.

Supermallet 07-06-06 06:39 PM

I'm mildly interested in those Chic Corea releases, but not enough to buy them.

digitalfreaknyc 07-06-06 11:42 PM

From Amir at AVS re: Paramount:

The Faithful will be rewarded
He also says that there's a hint in there. Any ideas?

Supermallet 07-06-06 11:48 PM

What Paramount movies center around faith? Perhaps faith in a religious figure or to some other charismatic figure?

Hmm...i went a step further to say that (since it was posted in the HD DVD forum) that Paramount would be "faithful" to HD DVD from now on...instead of both. Who knows.

Supermallet 07-06-06 11:51 PM

That could very well be. I couldn't immediately think of any big Paramount film that centers around faith (big enough to be a killer app, anyway), so that may be the way to read it.

Makes sense to me and would mean much then just a hint at an upcoming title. Plus the only Paramount title that has the word "faith" in it that I can think of is Leap of Faith with Steve Martin. And there is no way that Paramount would put that title out as one of their first HD DVDs.
