When are we going to get these so called "HD DVD specific" features?

A search of the thread didn't turn this up, but Robert Harris mentioned on the Home Theater Forum that special editions of The Dirty Dozen, The Searchers, and Grand Prix would be coming from Warner in summer/fall, along with Singin' in the Rain and The Adventures of Robin Hood.

(This thread is a sticky now, by the way.)

Yeah, but I'm sticking with firm announcements with actual dates. Rumors are, like, unreliable. ;)

Thanks. I'm flattered.

Good news. Seems like Warners is the most aggressive out of the HD-DVD camp with their selection of titles. But then again, they were the same way with DVD. Paramount needs to wake up. I hope Universal starts getting more aggressive as well. I suspect King Kong's Summer release will really ignite their HD plans.

Oh, I know. I don't think you should list it either -- I just figured this'd be the best place to post those kind of rumors.

Amazon.com has Full Metal Jacket HD-DVD ready for order. It's $20.29....I just placed my order. Can't wait to see this in HD.

EDIT: Amazon now says this won't ship for 4 to 6 weeks. Screw that.

I think these last second announcements from the studios make it difficult for retailers to sell and advertise their product.

Here's the press release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WARNER HOME VIDEO TO RELEASE
TWO MORE HD DVD TITLES

Blazing Saddles and The Fugitive Debut May 23

Burbank, Calif., (May 17, 2006) – Warner Home Video (WHV) has announced the HD DVD release of The Fugitive and Blazing Saddles debuting May 23. Both titles will be available for $28.99 SRP.

The Fugitive, which stars Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones is the box-office hit and Best picture Oscar® -nominated motion picture based on the long-running TV series about a surgeon falsely accused of killing his wife; Blazing Saddles stars Cleavon Little as an unlikely sheriff in the town of Rock Ridge, Harvey Korman as the villain, Madeline Kahn as a Marlene Dietrich-style chanteuse, Gene Wilder as the wacko Waco Kid and Brooks himself as a not-too-sharp politico.

All bonus materials on the Standard Definition versions of each of the two titles will be included on the HD DVD versions.

Warner Home Video HD DVDs offer resolution six times higher than standard definition DVDs, extraordinarily vibrant contrast and color in addition to beautifully crisp sound. HD DVD also provides a new level of interactivity, giving instant access to extra features with the debut of a seamless menu bar that allows viewers to enjoy features and settings without leaving or interrupting the film.

6/6 - Constantine, The Perfect Storm, Firewall (DVD/HD-DVD combo - day and date)

Adam Tyner 05-22-06 10:53 PM

Strange that Warner would announce 6/6 releases but skip over 5/30. I wonder if they're taking a week off or if their announcement schedule is weirder than I thought.

I think they're taking a week off. Too bad that Universal is as well. One of them should be doing it every week.

Since Firewall is day/date, maybe they wanted to get the word out quickly....lets hope Batman Begins will fly into stores on 5/30. Fingers crossed.

Yeah but the BR Basic Instinct 2 is the R-rated version apparently. Guess Sharon Stone isn't too comfortable with the HD resolution.

Maybe she's "not aware of it." ;)

who's peabrained idea was that... with Ultraviolet being the theatrical cut (vs. the 'unrated' version on SD-DVD) this sounds like a trend that will just irk many folk (me included).

Finding Neverland
Shinobi (No Eng Subs)

The Brothers Grimm (6/23)
Oldboy (7/28; No Subs)
