The Sopranos isn't half the show it used to be, and it's never looked very good in High Definition. Personally, I'm not much excited over that one.

Its been up for a couple days. I preordered it yesterday morning. I think there was a discussion about it in the hd/bd software bargains thread.

Its probably more appropriate for that thread, but dont sweat it. I was excited about it too!

Just found out that Paramount is releasing Nacho Libre on HD-DVD and Blu-ray on Oct. 31st (the previous release date was a week earlier).

Jack Black in hi-def. Scary.

Only the theatrical cut of the '84 film says "Directed by David Lynch." The other says "Directed by Alan Smithee." If it were the Sci-Fi miniseries, it would have said (Miniseries) and if it were the Smithee version, it would have said, (Extended).

...And if it were just being honest it would have said (Dull).

I think it would have said (Fascinating Failure), but that's just me.

So, why don't we have The Matrix and Batman Begins on HD DVD yet? According to Robert George on AVS, The Matrix was postponed to add a TrueHD track and perhaps a new VC-1 encode since the encoding tools have taken such huge strides since day one. Reportedly Batman Begins was also re-encoded.

If true, I support any delay if it results in better quality.

Especially since The Matrix and Batman will most likely be seen by a large portion of the public as releases against which the whole format is judged.

According to Best Buy and Amazon, Backdraft is still coming out on 9/12, not 9/19 as re-scheduled.

Not surprising. Since they got the 30/9's working, I am betting most, if not all new releases will be on combos. Nothing like paying more for something you will never use.

Has anyone heard whether A&E will be supporting HD DVD and/or BD?

Sorry if this has already been posted, but apparently Season 7 of The West Wing won't be on HD DVD. It's inclusion on that insert with Smallville Season 5 was a mistake...but Smallville is still coming.

Source.
