Mi: 3 and MI box set both available for pre-order on Amazon. Given the availability of Paramount titles, it might be a good idea to pre-order early.

I'm not sure I'm going to keep the order, but I pre-ordered the box set to check and see if they would apply the 10% off. They did. $61.96 shipped. MSRP is, what, $100?

Not sure of MSRP, but it's rather tough to beat the Amazon deal, based on other prices I've seen.

Geez. $70 is pretty steep for three movies. I don't think I've paid more than $15 a movie for a boxset of a mainstream trilogy in a while.

Tentative release dates for a number of titles from Universal have been posted at the HD DVD blog. Nothing official, so take 'em with a grain of salt.

11/14: The Hulk, King Kong, Waterworld
11/21: Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas
11/28: An American Werewolf in London, Dune (Theatrical), Meet the Parents, The Mummy

Word is that most, if not all, will be combo releases.

I have a feeling the 11/14 date is legit. Isn't that the same day the extended dvd of Kong is released? hmmm.....

Hopefully they will come to their senses and NOT release those as combos.

Count me in for King Kong, Meet the Parents and The Mummy.

I'll be curious to see how they handle DUNE, compared to the most recent DVD edition (which included anamorphic editions of both the theatrical and expanded editions).

I'm in for Kong, Dune, and American Werewolf.

M:I3 is a double-disc release, I think. That's where the extra $$$ is coming in, most likely.

And they both looked like shit. I don't hold out much hope for this one.

Valid point. I haven't even picked it up yet (and, with this news, it looks like I won't... at least not the SD version). I've been sticking with my R2 France version.

Dune and Kong will definately be ones I buy. The MI ultimate edition might also get my attention.

Just preordered the M:I Ultimate Edition set from Amazon for $63. I agree with the above post that it's probably best to try to stay ahead of the Paramount supply curve.

The French version is substantially better than the Universal disc.

There's no comparison. It's a night and day difference.

There is about a 0.00000001% chance of that happening. Universal paid to strike the new transfer for the SE DVD, which is now their new archive master. That's the one they're going to use for all future home video releases.

Besides, the French disc is PAL and its master suffers from the 4% speedup, which is far from ideal when we move to HD.

Universal has never treated Dune with much respect. That being said, the more Lynch there is available on HD DVD, the happier I am. I'm definitely buying the European releases of The Elephant Man and Mulholland Drive in November.

Now here's a thought that really scares me. What if Universal only includes the wretched Allan Smithee "Extended Edition" of Dune on the HD DVD?

Despite the fact that the release says "Theatrical"?

Considering that the first DVD was theatrical only, and that I'm sure Universal wouldn't want to go to the trouble of encoding a longer movie that's liked less by the few fans of the film, it's a pretty safe bet to expect it will be theatrical.

Ooh, very nice; I bet it'll be expensive, though.
