I find it humorous that IB wants a "family friendly" site then choses to run this Frontier(S) ad. If either of my boys saw any part of that they'd be scared for the rest of the day. I'd much rather them see a boob or a bit of ass than this type of gore.

I hope they (IB) can understand that they don't get to have their cake and eat it too. Don't pretend to be a "family friendly" site then have ads for gorey movies.

Now as far as the ad goes, I do find it annoying, disturbing and a good reason not to return to this site until it's removed.

Thank you.

Except that they do get to have their cake and eat it too. They don't give a shit about the users of this site. They're making money either way.

Here is an idea for those at work. Set the volume to mute I do that when using school library computer in case some ads with audio pop on.

I haven't had much trouble with this ad. But maybe that's because I'm being lazy and just hitting 'pg up' or 'pg down',or arrow buttons and not using cursor to scroll. Since only when my cursor scrolled across the ad,did it begin to play trailer with audio. But it always stopped and went away when I selected 'close'.

It is a bit annoying though with it literally being on every single forum and thread though!

I agree, fuck this ad and fuck this movie.
This kind of shit makes me not want to come to this site, and makes me want to drink, and I have been sober for 3 weeks.

Maybe i'm missing something, but why is everyone blaming Internet Brands? As far as i remember, there were plenty of annoying ads that have popped up the last few years. And plenty of times we had to wait a few days for Geoff to work through it. Or all of the ad placements in signatures or below posts or whatever.

I was also under the impression that a lot of ads were as a result of the ad company and doesn't exactly go through an approval process before they show up here.

I could be wrong and if that ad stays up for the next month because Internet Brands wants it there then I can see the complaints, but if they're looking at it and end up pulling it in the next day or so, it would be fine with me.

Geoff was one dude, and he interacted with us and was cool, so when this kind of situation popped up we'd cut him some slack, cause he was just one dude, and cool.

IB is a huge, faceless corporation sucking up websites. Fuck 'em.

How would IB know whether or not someone was blocking the ads?

One saving grace is the fact that the ad isn't very loud. Yes, it's annoying. But compare it to Texas Chainsaw Massacre ad a while back. That was both loud and obnoxious. The marketing dept must believe they have to annoy viewers like this to attract horror fans.

This ad has really grown on me since my last post. I want to see it in theaters now... Many many times. Maybe even as many times as I've seen the ad! Keep them coming!

Is there any way you can get the ads to over-ride our volume control? Because I accidentally left my computer muted and then i saw that the ad was playing and I missed the fantastic screaming sound, so I had to keep refreshing until I got the ad to come up again.

Maybe we should have them for louder movies.

Again, thanks!

P.S. Can you add a button to the ads that makes them our default home page and doesn't allow us to start browsing the internet until the ad has completed? Maybe even have a voice in the ad say something, and we have to type in what the voice said before we can proceed? That will make sure we heard it with the fantastic sound. Again, thanks!

I would think their marketing folks would be interested in a thread like this, though. If you released a campaign that pissed off tons of your customers, wouldn't you want to know about it? I suppose the Frontier(s) ad folk might like to see the feedback, as well.

No kidding. As annoying as it is that this thing starts screaming at me every time I look at DVD Talk, it's made all the worse that it's an ad for a torture porn film.

It used to violate the terms of service, and I didn't block the ads out of respect for Geoff's wishes. I don't know what the TOS is for IB now, and frankly don't care. Things are easier for me on all sites now since I downloaded those Firefox extensions, and I'd rather be banned from DVD Talk than to give that up.

Oh I don't care about that, it was more in reply to people blaming Internet Brands or thinking this was possibly something new related to them when we've seen the same thing under Geoff's ownership.
