This ad is beyond ridicoulous and Internet Brands you are doing a disservice to your members. This ad is going off all over the place, with your gruesome sounds eminating all over the place.

Bah. I hadn't come to the feedback forum in YEARS. But after I saw the ad, I knew there was going to be a complaint thread about it.

I blame DVDTalk for allowing such an annoying fucking ad in the first place. What the hell is happening here, my head's been in the clouds lately but I had no idea DVDTalk was sold and Geoff is no longer around. Is that what all of this family friendly BS whining is about?

I didn't know either, but just read this on Wikipedia:

In September 2007 DVD Talk was sold to Internet Brands.

I HATE this movie and its horrible ads! Beyond terrible!

Just to use the DVDTalk site, I have to put my soundcard on mute but it's almost inevitable that I'll have at least one (often) two of the damn ads expand right out on whatever page I'm at! AWFUL!

For the love of God, please get rid of the damn thing already!

I've actually had this movie on my wish-list for a few months now, but I don't think I could bring myself to buying it now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a Feedback forum, not a bitchfest forum. Where the hell is any feedback from a Mod?

And sucks that Geoff isn't here; I had no idea. Did he post a goodbye or anything?

And to the point about my complaining about it not being family-friendly : This is (or was) a site I was find browsing while my kids watched TV in the family room. I don't want them scared or disturbed and I think I have that right.

This is not the first time that an ad with sound and uncontrollabe expansion has bothered the majority of the members at DVDTalk. I suggest that the mods, administrators, reviewers and members send an email to Internet Brands complaining about this, with the means of stopping this idiotic practice. This type of ads only annoys people and get the wrong type of publicity that the companies are looking for.

I guess that explains a few things. I've noticed the traffic on this site has gone waaa-aaaay down over the last several months. It used to be that if you didn't check in every couple of hours threads would drop to the second or third page without you ever seeing them, now they seem to stay for days untouched.

There just seems to be a lack of information and excitement. This has been my home page and favorite forum for 6 years but it may be time to look elsewhere

Traffic may be down, but if you start a thread on a topic, a day later it's the second or third hit on Google. IB knows Google.

I turned off my external speakers at work and I could still hear the stupid ad. It was just quieted. That's never happened before.

This does work like a charm. I'm browsing here without those loud, violent, uncloseable ads on every page.

Seriously, I'm ok with the ads in general, but that one went too far. Let me know when it's gone and I will, of course, turn off the adblocker here.

MODS: You might want to let the powers-that-be at IB that their idiotic obnoxious new ads are actually causing people who never used adblockers before to do so, just to make the forums readable.

I never noticed the ads. Another poster had mentioned his frustration in a separate thread. So I entered this thread and as i was scrolling through, the ads audio popped up suddenly! I can see how it can become an annoyance and now I'll probably spot it more than ever now.

edit to add:

There it is again!

I FINALLY made the switch from IE to Firefox this weekend and this is how I'm rewarded?

Seriously, this ad is pretty annoying.

Everytime I now come to this forum, I have to make sure and keep my mouse to the sides so I don't accidentally hover over that dang ad... This and the one on IMDb for The Dark Knight are annoying as hell.
