I haven't been participating in the discussion for this challenge (It's been hard since coming back from a Caribbean vacation) but I have been able to watch something here and there including Fantasia and Fantasia 2000.

Speaking of music (I'll refrain from commenting on the musicals discussion), I started watching Jem and the Holograms on Netflix Australia today, which has all 3 seasons, just for curiosity. The show was on when I was growing up but it never caught my attention except for the theme song "Truly Outrageous".

Not bad but obviously I wasn't the target demographic when it was on and I'm definitely not now. Using a somewhat Sci-Fi plot, with music videos and girls theme, I can see the fascination for the show.

The other reason why this show caught my eye was the controversy surrounding the live action remake coming in October that made fans of the show angry.

Yeah, I think fans have a right to be angry. Too much drama (well, melodrama). I'd much rather see an animated feature done in the style of the original show.

OK, I'll just use it for the Japan Academy Awards' Excellence Animation List.

I'm almost done, only have 4 more to watch and I'm working on filling up the ones where you only have to choose 5 or 6 of something for the challenge. I've really enjoyed most of what I've seen.

If you're still looking for an animated non-fiction, most of the Bell Science films are on youtube and all but The Thread of LIfe (1960) have a imdb animation genre listing.

What with all this talk of musicals, I ended up watching the musical episode of Strange Hill High tonight, "Snoozical".

Not getting much viewing in tonight, as I'm sick to my stomach. Just watching what I want instead.

I'm feeling better this morning, so started in as soon as I got up. I finished an episode of Voltron that I started yesterday. It was the first appearance of the lions, but with the key to the black lion missing.

You should look into the Thunderbirds Blu Rays, or if you have a Roku, a few episodes are on the Shout TV channel.

I just discovered that Snag Films on Roku has the original Superman cartoons. Just finished 'The Arctic Giant', about a frozen dinosaur coming back to life.

I forgot Shout! released the complete collection - if I had money to spend I'd splurge - but oh well - I did watch the Twilight Time blu of '6' and it looked great man oh man those special effects guys could film such vicious amazing explosions.

in terms of dino's - got a DVD coming from Netflix about Dinosaurs that were indigenous to Africa - sounds fascinating to me. And next week checking out 'Dinosaurs Alive!' in IMAX downtown at the Natural History Museum.

I decided to focus mainly on animation today, so started the challenge today with a TUFF Puppy cartoon on Nicktoons. I'd never seen it before, but it was a pretty good cartoon.

I broke the 60 hour mark today with the movie An Extremely Goofy Movie. Probably fitting because it is kind of goofy to spend 60 hours in one month watching animation, but it sure is fun.

I started S3 of The Flintstones and have been very pleased as how well it's held up for me! I remember growing less fond of the series after Bam-Bam came along and don't own any seasons past 3 because of that.

My granddaughters came in while I was watching a few episodes and both loved it! They saw the picture of Pebbles on the cover and asked who she was so I had to tell them. Of course they now want to see the episode where she's born as well as a few after that one so I've put the series on hold as I got to that episode Wednesday night. Hopefully they'll be at the house this afternoon long enough to get in a couple...

this isn't a really good use of my time - but I decided to do something different for this challenge - actually 'read' articles and such about animation (all of course I can't officially 'count')

- just finished the great 'Pinocchio - The Making of the Disney Epic' by J.B. Kaufman - the most fascinating part is the last section of the book that details all the animator's and the specific sequences they animated. It's a great book and I highly recommend it.

thinking of diving into the BFI Film Classic book/critical analysis of 'Spirited Away' which is a scant 121 pages.

After a couple day break where I just didn't have time to watch anything, I stuck in Shrek. It's hard to believe it's almost 15 years old! I think it holds up still, even the animation. Love the music to it, too...

For animated semi-pseudo-non?-fiction, Graham Chapman's "Liar's Autobiography" is on Amazon Prime.

Angel-Nanny is easily one of the best films made in several different categories - musical, family, live/animated, satire, economic theory...

It's also arguably the most quotable film I can think of. Almost every line is brilliant - funny, apt, satirical, pithy, surreal - and can be quoted in many circumstances.

Plus the core message(s) of the film - from the blatant (don't ignore your children; "fun" is good, and often free; laughter cures a lot; help the less fortunate; banks can be greedy) to the subtle (suicide is bad; those who help the most are often not thanked; lectures on the death of Empire) are both worthwhile and well done.

It's a good film. As are several "live" Disney ones. But MP is the best.

I've been watching a lot, but commenting has taken a backseat.... but I found time today because I've been watching a weird 1980s Japanese-ish Alice in Wonderland TV series on Amazon. It's.... very odd. Mildly musical, too. And very clearly a recurring daydream rather than alternate reality.

Anyone ever heard of this?

I haven't-is it just called "Alice in Wonderland?" Is it Prime?

There were a few movies I wanted to watch before the Challenge was up, so I renewed my Netflix DVD Plan. Got Land Before Time 1 and 3 coming, probably be shipped out on Monday.

I really like the first one...but some of the sequels, well, most of them, aren't near as good! Weird how many of them they made! But that first one, perfect!

Popped in Secret of NIMH right now and saw Dom DeLuise voices a character. I added him to the list of voice actors as he's in a ton of animated movies/shows. Anyone else think of any to add?

I own Secret of NIMH too. Read the book as a kid, but didn't see the movie till I was grown up. Plan to watch it sometime myself.

Been watching Voltron tonight. First I watched ' The Right Arm of Voltron', in which Sven is hurt, though in the Japanese version, he's actually killed. And I just now watched 'Fleet of Doom', in which Lion Force, and Vehicle Team teamed up. Still plan to watch some Vehicle Voltron tonight too.
