The "daydream" angle certainly seems more important to them than the "Wonderland" of the book(s), yes. I like the occasional 'better' solutions to perceived-oddities from the source material (nudge table)*, too.

Now up to Episode 16, I'm trying to decide if I like "actually young-and-naive (bordering on stupid/crazy) Alice" or if it's getting a bit overdone.... she keeps telling Wonderland natives about how much she likes eating their real-world counterparts. If even the irrritating sidekick rabbit is telling her he's embarrassed by her, it"s time to think before speaking!


*Interestingly, that's why live Cinderella was so great in parts (solving/answering problems/errors with story and film) and so disappointing in others (introducing new anomalies, or missing great chances to address other problems).

I just finished the episode of Voltron where the Princess becomes the pilot of Blue Lion.

I have to see this. I'm a fan of the director (he directed Osamu Tezuka's PHOENIX 2772, 1980). The Japanese have done dozens of animated movies/TV series based on western literature. Most have not come out in English, something I find truly baffling. "Swiss Family Robinson" and "Little Women" have been dubbed in English, but I'd love to see them in Japanese with subs. "The Little Prince," also. I have a lot of episodes of things like "Anne of Green Gables," "Heidi," and "Dog of Flanders," but in Japanese with no subs.

I picked up a box set of a recent (2011) X-Men animated series from Japan, 12 eps. for $9.99. I'd never even heard of it. I watched one episode and it's got the characteristic anime look, but it was very dark (as in lack of light/hard to see). I need to see more eps. to get a handle on it.

I'm extremely depressed tonight. I hope challenge viewing will help my mood.

This is the one that I'm watching. Like certain parts of it, but it's not great in my opinion. Just a little too annoying, the voices, Benny Bunny, for me. I'm watching on Amazon Prime. I do like the tweaks they have done to solve some of the problems, but it just feels rushed to me overall. Like they spend way too much time one section, that by the time they've gotten to the goal, they have no more time to actually explore it.

Two of my nieces are here this week. Tomorrow I'm taking them to see "Home" as my local library is putting it on in the park along with crafts and music before hand, and then on Thursday we're going roller skating and then to "Shaun the Sheep." I just finished an interesting episode of Planet Dinosaur that I bought on Amazon Instant Video. It was a revealing look at feathered dinosaurs.

Have you seen Willy Fog?
It's not properly Japanese (though I think the second series/season was a co-production with the Japanese), but I think you mighy enjoy it - it's Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days (1) and Journey to the Centre of the Earth/20,000 Leagues (2) only starring cartoon animals. Willy (not Phileas) Fog is a lion, Passporteau is called Rigadon and is some kind of cat. It's relatively faithful to the novels, albeit with an inserted villain and irritating sidekick.

Amazon Prime has/has had all/most of it*, and it's really good. I remember it showing on TV when I was younger, though, so I may be speaking nostalgically..

*One episode from the first series is the wrong episode, and the 13th of Willy Fog 2 cuts off halfway through.

Oddly enough, horror helped my mood. I just finished It Came From Beneath the Sea. I hadn't seen it since I was a kid, and I really enjoyed it. Planned a horror marathon tonight, and decided to make my first watch something that would count for this challenge, to get at least one credit watch.

I watched this one last month-I try to watch it for the Sci-Fi Challenge. It's one of the easier ones to watch every year. Some just don't hold my interest, but I like this one. The acting is pretty good for the film, too. Glad you liked it!

I woke up in the middle of the night and wanted to watch some animation. Children's cartoons are nice to watch sometimes. I just finished an episode of Octonauts on Disney Junior.

Hulu has some good cartoons. I just finished the first episode of Spider-Man, that aired on Fox to start the day's viewing. Hulu also has The X-Men too.

Since I'm stuck in bed from throwing my back out, I plan an animation marathon today and tonight till I fall asleep.

I haven't taken a night to just watch random, what looks good on TV in quite a while, so tonight will be the night, and tomorrow will resume the challenge wholeheartedly, including some Disney, and Don Bluth.

I have chronic back problems as well, so I feel ya. Get better soon. Maybe some Robot Chicken will cheer you up?

I don't know if it's just the fun of challenges, or what, but my mood has greatly improved tonight. I'm feeling great despite my being in a lot of pain.

Youch! Not fun at all! I hope that your back starts to feel better soon and that you enjoy normal tv! I know my DVR is getting backed up as well as I've been watching animation when I can get to the TV rather than anything else...

Just got home from watching "Home" in a local park. They had a inflatable screen where it was played. Before hand, they had crafts for the kids and concessions. Fresh popcorn and cotton candy, too! While it was light out, it was nice out, but after dark it got pretty cold. We were glad we brought warm blankets! The movie itself was a lot cuter than I thought it was going to be. Glad we went and I'd recommend it if you're on the fence about it. Also, if you're a fan of Sheldon from Big Bang Theory, he kind of just played himself from the show.

I just noticed that the Criterion thread went up a bit ago (this month is flying by!) and people were listing crossover titles that work for both challenges. I thought I'd post them here for anyone who is interested.
