I will watch any and all musicals. I kind of like the bad 60s ones. Last May, I made my challenge all musicals, but I didn't get too many watches in because life. I may have to revisit that one. The Sound of Music is a good one, but kind of long. I also enjoy Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. That was long too, but I like putting it on at night and falling asleep to it. Along with Doctor Dolittle. There's just something about that era that required a musical movie to be long enough to have an intermission!

One of my favorite non-animated musicals is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. So much fun!

But back to animation, I love Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and The Lion King. Disney had a trifecta right in there where the music was great and it was fun to watch and listen to. I do enjoy a lot of their older works as well, like Peter Pan and Cinderella...

I bought a long time ago, a Disney anthology with almost all their songs-it was 5 CDs long so quite a few. I listen to it fairly frequently on my ipod. I have tons of musicals on there as well, not just Disney. I was listening to Rent not an hour ago. Les Miserables is my absolute favorite though!

Damn it, man! I only have three versions of Sweeney (original Broadway cast, Patti LuPone revival, and jazz instrumental)! I was neglectful not to pick up the NY Philharmonic version or the movie soundtrack. But the fact that you said "cast recordings" above and not "soundtracks" makes you my new best friend!

I do have three to five different versions each of shows like Company, Little Night Music, Follies, Merrily We Roll Along, and Into the Woods, though, if that counts for something.

Those are some of the greatest movie musicals ever. Plus Paint Your Wagon. I finally saw that for the first time this year (I was even unfamiliar with the stage version)--so bizarre.

You should really see that!

Not musicals per se, but last week, I subscribed to two Roku channels that have concerts, Qello Concerts, and one with all genres of classical music performances.

I have quite a few Disney movies, and happen to enjoy The Sound of Music.

Shadokitty, I found Walking with Monsters online, if you wanted to see it as well and finish the series. It's my favorite of the lot. I still say MESOTHELAE at inopportune times.

Going through the checklist this time I've definitely thought of some changes for next year, besides the already discussed Voice Actors list. I'll wait until the challenge is over, collect my thoughts and make my suggestions.

Quite possibly. Tevye (Father of the family/male lead) does sing a song, or part of one - don't remember exactly as it's been too long, on the roof and he *does* have a beard.

I'm doing pretty good, though I need to work on my directors. I've been trying to work on the animation list at icheckmovies.com and since a lot of them were Japanese movies, it didn't help past those couple checks on the list. But...by the end of the challenge, I'll be 2 away from having watched all top 100 animated movies!

I'm eager to hear your suggestions! Feel free to post them here earlier if you want. I welcome discussion even if you're just trying ideas out! I know the year before I took the challenge over (2 years, now? 3?) It got a pretty good makeover with the addition of the icheckmovies lists. I do like those, but maybe a couple new ones added or maybe switch a couple up?

Thanks to your link Screwadu, I just finished the first episode of Walking with Monsters. I can see why it is your favorite. So far it is mine too.

I decided to get an early start to today's challenge viewing. I started with episode 2 of Walking with Monsters, on the Dailymotion channel on Roku. It was a good episode about the first reptiles.

For the most part, I'm going to make Blu Rays and DVD's my first choices to pick from, in order to get use out of them.

I found out that one of my series sets doesn't hold up. I used to love Bravestarr, but when I put it in this morning, I could barely get past the first episode.

I've got a question about the category of watch a work of animated non-fiction. My plan was to watch The Wind Rises but I'm not positive now because of some of the comments made earlier. Can anyone who has seen it let me know if it qualifies?

I saw it and I would count it. I think the issue some people have is not whether it's a true story but whether it tells the whole story. My take is that it's a work of art so they had to make choices.

Hmm, I'm on the fence. I watched it and it really is a combination of life stories between two people and some say Miyazaki, as well. IMDb: The protagonist Jirô Horikoshi is a fictional character made from a mix of the actual lives of Tatsuo Hori, the author of the short story of the same name, and Jirô Horikoshi, the designer of the Zero fighter aircraft. The title comes from Hori's translation of a quote from Paul Valéry's poem "Le cimetière marin"

That being said, it does have biography as a genre there...but checking wikipedia, they also agree that it is a "fictionalized biopic." So, I think I'm going to say it won't count. Sorry!
