Is the checklist finalized enough to add to our Lists yet, or is it still a work in progress?

Unless someone comes up with some last minute ideas, you can consider the checklist finalized.

For those with Hulu Plus, all of the Irwin Allen science fiction shows are available on hulu. Most are the complete series as well, minus Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea which only has 2 seasons available. Also the complete series of Star Blazers is on Youtube.

Re: 6th Annual Sci Fi/Fantasy Challenge

Richard Matheson dies at 87.

Should maybe be included in the Ray Bradbury line as well.

^Matheson has enough SF credits on film to stand alone. If anything, split the Bradbury line to make 2 lines of 2 persons for bit more variety.

I have series 1 of Star Blazers on VHS, series 2 (The Comet Empire) on DVD, but I don't have series 3 (The Bolar Wars) at all.
Is series 3 on YouTube?

There is a continuity but these series were all made at different times.

I second Matheson being a lone entry. Sad news - particularly coming relatively swiftly after Ray Bradbury.

Re: 6th Annual Sci Fi/Fantasy Challenge

Nuts. I was hoping to watch Dredd, Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter and Zombieland, but the library has none of them. It does have a dozen copies of Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill, though. If only that was Sci-Fi...

Ray Bradbury was a year ago this month. Ray Harryhausen was recent (in May, I believe).

Re: 6th Annual Sci Fi/Fantasy Challenge

I just edited the checklist, splitting up the written by category to two lines, Ray Bradbury / Phillip K. Dick, and HP Lovecraft / Richard Matheson.

Something else I've noticed lately while watching a few episodes of Tekkaman Blade. The Japanese version is definitely more adult and violent than the dubbed version, Teknoman. Milly/Maggie made a poop reference in one episode, and the fight between Noal and D-Boy after Aki/Star was in a coma, was a lot longer and more violent than the fight between Ringo and Blade in Teknoman.

Re: 6th Annual Sci Fi/Fantasy Challenge

How does watching a movie and then rewatching it with commentary count?

I just picked that up so maybe I'll watch it too.

Right now I'm sitting on half-finished seasons of Buffy and GOT, plus sitting on complete seasons of Revolution, Orphan Black, Continuum, and Lost Girl. Not to mention deep catalog of B5 and DS9 6-7, catch-up movies like Looper, Battleship, Wrath of the Titans, and Snow White/Huntsman. I own way too much stuff that is eligible for this challenge.

I feel your pain. I own enough qualifying titles to do this challenge for a full year without repeats and still have stuff left over.

Commentaries usually count as a separate entry so one entry for watching the film and another entry for watching the film with the commentary track.

Edit to add: Not trying to brag, I'm not proud of this fact actually....

I'll see your 20' and raise you 10' (at least - and that's just the cataloged stuff). I have just under 500 SF titles cataloged (I don't catalog until I've watched the title) and the catalog doesn't include TV series. The uncataloged material would add another 5' or so. My statement about doing a full year was assuming I'd watch at least 100 entries per month for that year.

I'm not bragging (well not much) but I'm very proud of my SF collection and am always on the hunt for stuff to add.

Think I might start out with The Thing trilogy (Original, 82 Remake, Remake Prequel). And maybe the commentaries.

Has it really been that long? One of my e-mails telling me about Mr Matheson mentioned Mr Bradbury in terms that made me think it was a much more recent loss than that.

I like that idea.

My advice, for what it's worth is to watch DS9 and give Snow White away. Chris Hemsworth is good, but otherwise it was extremely forgettable...

That's quite impressive Bob! I'm slowly reorganizing my entire collection, putting some titles in binders and (gasp!) throwing away the cases. One thing I am going to try to resolve to do as I complete this task is to finally put everything in a database. I was super thorough with DVDSpot back in it's day, but have stubbornly refused to catalog things since its demise, and my collection is super disorganized. I'm starting from scratch with DVD Profiler now. Horror is my biggest genre, but sci-fi is gaining lately.

Re: 6th Annual Sci Fi/Fantasy Challenge

Sci-fi TV is really my blind-buy kryptonite. I didn't even mention the other back catalog I have sitting around: New and old Who, The Prisoner, Defying Gravity, Stargate, Roswell, Smallville, Enterprise, etc. Most of it I have to watch by myself, though I was fortunate that the wife was willing to sit through Fringe, BSG, Dollhouse, and Lost.
