Big Lots horror DVD was pretty much a bust for me. I ended up getting Candyman, Vampires, Otis, Windy City Heat, and Road House(blu-ray/dvd). Otis is the only one I haven't see but if it turns out stupid, it was only $3.
Is anyone familiar with any of the Maria's B-Movie Mayhem DVDs? Amazon keeps putting them in my quick picks.

Walgreens had a small batch of public domain horror films in their Halloween section. Each disc has 2 movies and a cartoon on it. They are $1.99 each or 2/$3.
Titles I remember: Bluebeard, House On Haunted Hill, The Brain That Wouldn't Die, Sweeny Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, Atomic Age Vampires, Bloodlust, Revolt of the Zombies, ect.
Not quite lukewarm, I know, but it just feels funner to me to pop in a disc compared to PD streaming from the net.

I grabbed the two available at the moment, but haven't touched them yet. Just saving them for the challenge. They don't really appear to be anything particularly special to be honest.

I managed to track down a copy of the laserdisc commentary by Richard Matheson for Burn, Witch Burn! - would it be a no-no to upload it to Rapidshare and post the link in the film's discussion thread? If so, I could just have interested folks PM me for details. I haven't listened to it yet, but I understand that there are several gaps, though assumedly some interesting information as well.

I started looking up the price of Never Sleep Again and saw Deep Discount beats Amazon on the 2 disc version. Then I see DD has a Halloween sale and that a bunch of stuff beats Amazon's prices. What was originally going to be a $9.99 order has turned into a $131 order.

Friday night I started working on the checklist, there's 82 checks total, 85 counting optional. So far, not counting optional, I'm up to 43 checks with 8 movies. I'm only looking at movies I own, so there's probably a shorter way. It's starting to get harder at this point where I'm only going to get a few checks out of future titles.

I didn't know that Burn Witch Burn! was a recent addition to the MGM MOD series - here's the Amazon link. Again, if you're region-free, the UK disc would be cheaper. Either way, it's well worth buying.

Everyone got their Netflix queues set up? Here are my October rentals:
Night Creatures/The Evil of Frankenstein
Brides of Dracula/The Curse of the Werewolf
The Amityville Horror (1979)
Troll Hunter
Cronos
Angel Heart
Scream 4
The Ward
Expectations are quite low for the last two, but it being October I figured I'd give the Blu-rays a spin. All will be first-time viewings except Angel Heart and possibly Cronos - I can't remember.
Edit: Looks like I've got room for one more - any suggestions for another recent title? I've seen all of the catalog stuff that Netflix carries on Blu-ray. I noticed My Soul to Take, but couldn't bring myself to add it to the queue. I've already rented The Mist, The Crazies (remake), MBV (remake) and the (atrocious) Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm St. remakes during past challenges.

Dead and Buried or any of the other fine streaming films featured in the 31 days subset?

Ah, gotcha. I had mentioned on a previous page that Dead and Buried would make a nice double-bill with The Fog. I still have two Dead and Buried commentaries left, so I'll probably watch those on the subset day. I guess I'll add Amusement, as Netflix doesn't carry Embodiment of Evil on Blu-ray. I own all of the other films on the subset that have Blu-ray releases, except for The Stepfather, which I watched last year, and Dog Soldiers, which I have on DVD. There's also Poultrygeist, but you couldn't pay me to sit through any of the Troma movies.

I was interested in seeing a new release in theaters this month but nothing seems exciting. I want to see The Innkeepers but seems it got pushed to next year.

I've been going back and forth about whether to go ahead and purchase the Blood Trilogy and Basket Case Blu-rays. I want to watch these new additions during the challenge but would love to wait for slightly better prices. Yes, I realizes $13 isn't all that much, but as a bargain shopper, there's something about seeing the low percentage off the MSRP that makes me want to wait and Something Weird movies usually get really cheap. We'll see how long until I break down, but I've already made one order that will keep me busy that included The Evil Dead, Torso, The Exorcist (both versions), Shaun of the Dead, Dead Alive and Army of Darkness. I've seen all of them and own all of them except for Torso, but they'll be nice upgrades for the challenge.

This'll be my first year doing this challenge. I noticed there were some kind of official lists with different sub genres, rules, themes. Do you need to follow these lists? Or can i just make up my own list? Can i put down a few that i watch every Halloween or do they all have to be ones i haven't watched yet?

^Welcome to the maddness!
The "lists" are only there to help you branch out, encourage diversity, and foster discussion. As you've noticed there are several but the use of any of them is *not* required. If you do participate in the lists you can use as many or few as you like.
Reserve a space in the list thread (also not required - it's to simply to let others see what you are watching and to make you eligible for some of the prize drawings), list the films you watch (number your list), join in on the discussions, and *have fun*.

Chad (or anybody, for that matter),
Has there been any mention this year of wild cards? I don't recall seeing anything about them, but I may have to use one or two to knock out the optional items on the checklist this year.
