Today was brutal. I finished 6 movies and I'm getting ready to start number 7.

I'm not sure what whats wrong with me but I took time out today to spruce up my list even though theres no award for it like in the horror challenge.

I did manage to fit a few viewings in today too. I finally watched A clockwork Orange for the first time, I'm really not sure what to make of it. Maybe it's just one of those movies I have to watch again to get but I wasn't all that impressed.

Watched Blade Runner and although I really liked it, I can understand why it was a flop.

Checklist question:

Would the Blu-ray version of Robocop count as x rated for the checklist? I know it's unrated on the case, but my understanding is that it's the original x-rated version of the film. Can anyone confirm this?

The easiest way to check is to go over to imdb. It'll list what the original rating was and what it got after an edit.

In this case, you're correct, so go ahead and count it.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but I just wanted to be sure.

Just got done watching Moon. I had seen it in the theater last year and really enjoyed it, but watching it again, I'm convinced it is some kind of masterpiece. Rockwell's performance is heartbreaking, Clint Mansell's score is excellent, and visually it is a stunning looking film. I think it's the kind of movie that this challenge was made for.

I think it was the best film of 2009. Sam Rockwell was amazing.

The fact that he wasn't even nominated for an Oscar proves (again) they are joke.

Or you could just pour boiling acid into your eyes and ears for a more pleasant experience.

True, and I shouldn't mock anyway, I saw the first one for the same reason pretty much. I get free movie tickets all the time, and if I'm in the theater this month and it's the only film that fits my schedule, I'll probably see it, but only because fantasy now counts for the Challenge.

Re: Summer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge 10 - Discussion Thread

Another day, another movie. Life is good sometimes. After watching ID4, I figured I'd get my Will Smith kick out of the way. While his movies are not high art, they are still able to keep me pretty well entertained. I still wish that someone will be able to finally make a film version of I Am Legend that actually follows closely to the book which I love. The Omega Man was good but I honestly never felt that scared of the baddies, and adding the kids to the story was just a blah moment for me.

So as a change of pace, I decided to do something I've never done: to boldly watch every Star Trek movie in sequential order. TMP is just an ok movie, and if I wasn't a Trekkie...er... Trekker then I can see why people do not like it. There are just one too many self-indulgent touches and lingering shots that the pacing severely suffers. WoK is exactly what a sequel should be and more: more action, a better storyline and a kick ass baddie, Khan Noonian Singh. SfS had the unenviable task of following up a great sequel and unfortunately it just didn't live up to its predecessor. While Chris Lloyd was decent, he was no Montalban. And then we get to the whale one. This was actually my first Trek film I ever saw and from a purely nostalgia viewpoint, my favorite film in the series. VH didn't really have a menace or real threat and you have just a bit of comedy to just make this a fun film for everyone.

July 5, 2010
11) I, Robot
12) MiB
13) I Am Legend
14) The Omega Man

July 6, 2010
15) Star Trek: The Motion Picture
17) Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan
18) Star Trek III - The Search for Spock
19) Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home

Edited: Now I am wondering where I might procure This Ain't Star Trek XXX. I think I might need to add that to my collection.

Re: Summer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge 10 - Discussion Thread

I just watched TimeCrimes for the first time. I have to say I enjoyed it quite a bit for a time travel movie. None of the normal loopholes that you tend to find with such films. It's a great watch for anyone looking to fill that watch a movie in another language checklist item.

EDIT: On that same subject, I've never seen Run Lola Run. Imdb lists it as crime/thriller. I was under the impression that it's a time travel type movie which would fit the sci fi criteria but seeing as I've never seen it I really don't know. I'm sorry I keep asking if certain movies fit the criteria on here but I'm really looking for a lot of first time viewings and I'm not sure on some of them.

It's happened before, just thought I'd ask.

I finished Wrath of Kahn last night. Not that bad and in a way, it was a good choice to watch after the latest one.

It's been awhile but I'm pretty sure it counts.

There's a time travel movie I'm trying to remember the name of. The only thing I remember is the guy went back a few times and tried to save Kennedy, among other things. The first time he grabbed the gun from Oswald after he shot and then let him run off, which meant he got busted. He screwed up the second time but then I think the third time he got it.
