Finally, I don't want to speak for anyone, but it seems prudent that Dick Laurent and his Death Bed: The Bed that Eats somehow be a part of the 31 movies, only because I know myself and at least a few others purchased this movie in anticipation for this years challenge. Just a thought!

Well I wanna suggest Audition but I feel more have seen it than Haute Tension(High Tension)
So my choice would be High Tension http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338095/

I know this is a "DVD" talk forum, but for the OHMC I'd like to see recognition for watching the most formats (ie: DVD, VHS, DTV, etc). I counted nine for myself last year. Doesn't need a prize, I just think it's good to promote watching horror in any form available.
My run down for last year looked like this:
DVD = 45
HD DVD = 6
Blu-ray Disc = 5
VHS = 2
LaserDisc = 1
8mm Film = 1
Cinema/Movie Theatre = 2
TV/HDTV/DTV = 13
Internet = 6

^ Like the languages part of the expanded checklist, I've been planning to add a format section, with the aim to encourage four different formats.

I'd like to switch my pick to The Nanny http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059496/

As bad as this is, I can't even come up with a good pick. I keep looking at my unwatched list and my list from last year's challenge and nothing jumps out at me.

But there's no law that says it can't be something mainstream too. In fact, more mainstream titles here and there might bring about a little more discussion.

So does Death Bed officially have a slot in the 31 Films?
Also, if the movie has sequels can we expect the thread to remain spoiler free in regards to them?

And yes, each daily thread should only have plot discussion of that specific movie. Don't go into that thread if you haven't seen that movie. Other movies can be discussed tangentially, like everywhere, but hopefully no one will ruin sequels.

Looks like some respect is coming our way. John Sinnott contacted me and said he'd be happy to post something in the front page headlines and the DVDTalk newsletter regarding the horror challenge. I'm supposed to write a 150 or so word blurb that will appear during the week of 9/28 (newsletter goes out on Tuesdays).
Also, there's a possibility some prizes will be provided as well. IB has been talking with a couple of studios about their releases on the site and there's a chance we may receive something for the giveaways. So I'll hold off on the donation requests for now.

That is good news, Chad. I noticed the Criterion Club had gotten some attention along those same lines. Hopefully this trend continues.

Haven't listened to it yet but there's a Drunken Zombie Commentary download for the movie here http://drunkenzombie.com/blog/?p=457
The site seems flaky and I get errors half the time I try to get there but refreshing fixes it.

I am so beyond excited about this. I've wanted to do this challenge for years and this will finally be my first crack at it. Luckily my fiance loves horror just as much as me so I even have a teammate to work with. She got super excited when I asked her to do it with me.
I just have a couple quick questions, I read the whole front post so I do apologize if I still somehow missed something. I see that Masters of Horror count so I was wondering do the movies in Hideshi Hino's Theater of Horror count as well? They are each individual movies but the runtime on them is on the shorter side.
My other question being: Is the checklist mandatory? If so I'm gonna have to pick up a few movies to fill in some of the those period movie checklist gaps.

On the checklist, it's an optional thing. Personally, I've never done it but I know there's many that do.

No, it's optional. Same goes for the 31 Days Subset and the Wild Cards.

I'm trying to figure out what to start with this year. Each year I start with a different movie here's what I've started with in the past.
2005: The Amityville Horror (2005)
2006: A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
2007: Black Christmas (2006)
2008: Pet Sematary (1989)
Looking at that list I guess I should start with a film from the 2000s, since apparently I went from 05 to 84 to 06 to 89...

Yeah, I get so excited and try and pick out something "memorable" to start with. Then I usually end up watching something completely different.
Hopefully, I'll pick something this year and stick to it.

I looked over last year's subset to make sure of no duplication.
I wanted to suggest Psycho II (Richard Franklin, 1983) for the list of 31. I've always thought it to be a daring and satifying sequel to Hitchcock's film. It was the film that really got me into slashers, too, and it was released when that subgenre was at an all-time high. People seem to dismiss or forget the Psycho sequels, but I enjoyed them all. This one stands out because of its creepy, sympathetic portrayal by Perkins. I really think it will be a treat for those who've not seen it to discuss. That's why I'm pitching it for this challenge.

I've been a member of the forums for a while now, but have never joined in on the October Horror Challenge fun.
I think I'll jump in this year. It'll give me a good excuse to get through my large Horror back-log
