It's a shit-ton of fun.
Hey Lick I was thinking since we share a like in disturbing movies or just horror in general we should come up with a cool list that maybe we haven't seen before to go along with the usual must see movies. What do you think?

Welcome Larry! You know, with your avatar, I just assumed you were a Horror Challenge veteran.

On the 31 Day Subset, it's decided, we'll have specific films each day. Now, how are we going to pick the films?

Well, we could try something different and plug all of last year's participants who reached the 100 mark into a random number generator. We go down the list assigning the day according to the order in which they were picked. And it works out perfectly because there were exactly 29 who reached that number.

If someone doesn't respond within a set number of days, we'll plug in all of the '75 & Under' members and go down that list.

I agree, in theory, however I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a decent number of those people aren't going to participate in the discussion thread. It seems like consideration should be given for those who are going to participate (yes, hard to see in the future, I know.)

I don't want people to mindlessly pick a movie just because they were selected/asked to pick one, so lets get people who want to actively discuss the film, and others. So...

One condition of picking a movie is that you promise to actively participate in the thread for that movie, and as many others as you have watched.

Also, I'm willing to come off of the mandatory 13th pick, except on years where it lands on a Friday of course. So we have 30 choices to play with. Different from last year would be preferred I guess.

Yeah, I didn't really take into consideration that not everyone is guaranteed to participate this year as well as some not being active posters here.

Spoiler:
I just wasted 20 minutes preparing that damn list!

That's understandable. Then I guess the best course of action is to simply ask for willing volunteers who plan to participate. Then we plug 'em into a random number generator, right?

I'll obviously be participating, so I'll throw in my hat.

I'm in too, although whether or not I get to pick a movie is irrelevant to me.

I'll choose one if needed. But I'm fine if others are lined up to do it.

What's with this random number generator fascination? I'm sure we can do it without that. Some movies might be date specific, director/actor birthdays, full moon, etc. We had several last year iirc. Plus I'd rather manually space out similar titles, or not have sequels go out of order, etc.

Everyone who wants to choose one go ahead and throw it out here. Maybe with your justification, and any day/date specific points.

If we get more than 30 people suggesting titles then we'll do the random thing.

That sound ok?

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I agree with the "volunteer" idea for picking the titles. Last year, It seemed that some people weren't all that interested in picking, but did so out of obligation where others weren't "qualified" to pick, but had some good ideas.

As for me, I'm in. I'm assuming that I'll still be unemployed (glass half empty, I know), so I am hoping to watch more than I usually do.

Of course, I will do my usual straying from the norm and watch all kinds of Halloween programming. That's more fun for me. I found a bunch of cool documentaries (on Vincent Price, Hitchcock, etc) at the library and this series called "100 Years of Horror" that looks like it might have been produced by the BBC.

Rest assumed, I'll only count the movies and wild cards like I have in the past. However, you'll all be subjected to my reviews and comments on the non-qualifying stuff too.

You can try to be sneaky and use one of it's alternate titles.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I'm finding myself completely overwhelmed in picking a movie. I've been going over my my horror collection for a while, and one kind of stands out, and that is Cube. Although the two sequels, Cube 2: Hypercube and Cube Zero, are not as well received as the original, I still very much enjoy all three movies.

I guess all I ask is that it NOT be October 15th-19th, as I will be on vacation.

Finally, I don't want to speak for anyone, but it seems prudent that Dick Laurent and his Death Bed: The Bed that Eats somehow be a part of the 31 movies, only because I know myself and at least a few others purchased this movie in anticipation for this years challenge. Just a thought!

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Cube is the first choice, thanks Numes!

And I agree, we should put Death Bed: The Bed That Eats in the list. Coincidentally, my copy of it just arrived in the mail this very day.

Besides that one though, it may be best to choose films that are not quite so rare. Death Bed may get ten or more of us involved in the discussion only because it was mentioned so often last year, and many of us have tracked it down. But spring a similarly rare film at us at this late juncture and you may not get more than two or three people who have access to it. I'm not saying only pick "common" films, but if the point is group discussion, you may not want to pick a film that no one else owns or wants to bother tracking down. Not a rule, just a suggestion.
