Awwww. No Tim Robbins big head cover?

Rammsteinfan 12-16-08 05:52 PM

While its neither of the two original posters, ill still take it. Glad they didnt put any big heads or actors on the cover.

LickTheABCs 12-16-08 06:07 PM

Aww, shucks. I was hoping they'd put the sex offender on the cover.

Hmmmmmm..... Hasn't changed much.

BullGooseLoony 12-16-08 08:07 PM

Really nice cover. It's reminiscent of the original posters, but still looks like a DVD.

Rammsteinfan 12-16-08 09:12 PM

Looks like someone just took the original poster with the egg, removed the cigar and added the feet from the second poster.

JJE-187 12-16-08 09:29 PM

WTF!?! is Howie on steroids there? That poster is hilarous, too bad the movie wasn't

JiM T 12-16-08 10:20 PM

Too bad there seems to be no feature on the classic Marvel comic that this film derived from. When Howard's creator, Steve Gerber, was at the helm, that was one of the sharpest, wittiest pieces of pop-culture satire of the 1970s. It's extra unfortunate, since Mr. Gerber passed away earlier in the year. For those so inclined to check out the REAL "Howard the Duck", try to score the "Howard the Duck Omnibus" from Marvel. It ain't cheap, but it's a corker!

gmanca 12-16-08 10:40 PM

Very, very excited! I do love that movie, even if the diner with the Ninja Waitresses is the epitome of evil. The best thing about it is the music; John Barry's best IMO and Dolby does a pretty good job with the slower songs.

Finally! It is great news that Howard the Duck is being released...but I still consider the African Queen to be the holy grail of yet-to-be-released dvds in R1...hello, Warner Bros?

That would be, "Hello, Paramount?"

Not to waylay the tread, but I have heard (over at the Bits) that WINGS and THE AFRICAN QUEEN are being seriously worked on at Paramount right now.

Robespierre! Robespierre!

I'm ashamed to say that in 1986 I called the HTD 1-900 number to get the weekly updates leading up to the film's release. I may have to get this, just to double-bill it with Messiah of Evil.

Ah yes, the pre-Internet days, when you had to pay $1.99 a minute for 900 numbers. I remember running up like $15 or $20 calling Nintendo Power's hotline trying to get past a level of GoldenEye.

I really wish I was born in the mid-late 70's (I'm 21), and that last example was all I had of that relic.

GoldenEye 007 came out in 1997...there was definitely Internet in 1997 (and before)....sure, it was slow dial up modems, but there were definitely FAQs and tips and tricks for video games online 11 years ago....

Back on subject: Hey Universal, where's the Blu-ray Disc for this classic?

Doctor Gonzo 12-17-08 07:15 PM

"Special Edition"......yeahhhhh.......

you can't polish a turd.

Well, I'd like to have a R1 Starman in OAR. [shakes fist at Sony]
And Electric Dreams...

DRG 12-18-08 04:54 PM

I'm still surprised that this was the only Marvel property to get the big-budget treatment in that era. Howard the Duck gets Lucas, while Captain America got Cannon Films, and big franchises like Spider Man and X-Men didn't even get attempted until this decade. Granted, that's a good thing considering they probably wouldn't have done them well, but I'm surprised they didn't try anyway.

He didn't make the world. How can you not get it? Makes perfect sense. Sheesh!

jessecrx 12-21-08 04:13 AM

Sweet!

Now if only they'd release Rad I'd be pretty damn happy.

I also want A Night In The Life of Jimmy Reardon.

Chet Desmond 12-21-08 07:57 AM

"Trapped in a world he never made" was on the cover of almost every issue of HTD in the 70's. Right above the title.

BullGooseLoony 12-21-08 09:20 AM

Yeah, I never really got that tagline. And when I did, I thought it sucked.

They would have been a lot better off with the tagline below the title, "More adventure than humanly possible."

Rammsteinfan 12-21-08 11:49 AM

The last unreleased disc I am still waiting for is Legend of Billie Jean... could she be far off now that we have Howard coming???

Doctor Gonzo 12-23-08 08:23 PM

Why wait for the DVD? Kill those brain cells now...
