That is so weird...for the first time in months, I listened to the theme song of this movie, and I thought "I wonder when this is going to be on DVD."

It's about time. This is not a childhood fav or anything (I didn't see it until I was like 14), but it was a serviceable sci-fi comedy after Ghostbusters.

I wonder what they mean by "snap case," though, is it 1999 again?

Really!? That is great news! HTD is one of my most wanted still not on R1 DVD.

Howard the Duck, the outrageous film about a highly-evolved offbeat duck from outer space, finally lands on DVD in an all-new Special Edition! Based on the popular Marvel Comics character and executive produced by George Lucas (Star Wars), the visual effects-filled comedy follows the exploits of a wise-cracking, cigar-chomping duck as he tries to return to his home planet. Featuring brand-new bonus features, a digitally remastered picture and new 5.1 surround sound, Howard the Duck Special Edition is a hidden treasure the whole family can enjoy.

critterdvd 12-02-08 09:38 PM

Wow. I can't believe this. Can this really be the last holey grail DVD release?

EdTheRipper 12-02-08 09:40 PM

I used to watch this often when I was a kid. I'd definitely pick this up.

TomOpus 12-02-08 09:43 PM

I've almost bought the R2 several times... glad I held off.

dx23 12-02-08 09:53 PM

Finally! And it's relatively cheap to get on DVD? No word on Blu-ray?

Mr.Briggs 12-02-08 09:57 PM

Did they bring snap cases out of retirement to try to discourage sales???

LickTheABCs 12-02-08 10:04 PM

Yay, I can put my Import to rest. Well, as long as the CG hasn't been redone and Howard doesn't drop to his knees to yell "Nooooooooooooooooo!"..

Mondo Kane 12-02-08 10:07 PM

This was the movie that introduced me to condoms. It's going to the collection just for that alone.

For the most part, Universal doesn't seem to want to release new catalog titles on BD. They'd rather port the HD DVD titles.

Then again, if Street Fighter is coming, anything's possible.

The Monkees 12-02-08 10:24 PM

I'm looking forward to this one, haven't seen it in years!

Zodiac_Speaking 12-02-08 10:27 PM

Finally! It is great news that Howard the Duck is being released...but I still consider the African Queen to be the holy grail of yet-to-be-released dvds in R1...hello, Warner Bros?

Great news.

Finally, the movie that caused the chairman of Universal to resign and indirectly launched Pixar comes to DVD!

Fascinating, that's what I can say about it. Not in a good way, but in a sense of appreciating it as a failure, which was solely because of how commercial they attempted to make an non-commercial property. As in, it's not Battlefield Earth, but the concept as created would have worked better later on, say, as an Adult Swim show or what not.

Mountain Biker 12-03-08 12:33 AM

Wonderful news!

My Other Self 12-03-08 02:07 AM

Wow. I never thought I'd see the day.

SPRBD 12-03-08 02:51 AM

Wish they'd replace that crap looking ducksuit with a CGI duck. Ug.

JackBurton 12-03-08 07:32 AM

Thanks for the news. Another VHS that can be retired.
