Got to BB about 10:15 this morning and they had about 10 copies of Howard. Glad it was only $10. For being old, it looks pretty good in terms of quality. So far its great to see it again and so glad its one more wanted off my list. Now if they would just release Legend of Billie Jean on DVD.

I got mine Monday from warehouse DVD and just got around to watching it. To my surprise it has a lot of good special features added to it. The DVD quality out does my old warn out VHS (Which ill keep for memories sake). I'm pleasantly happy with this DVD release. One i thought would never come

I cant believe I am watching special features on a Howard the Duck DVD! Lea still looks great, and you can really see they put a lot in the film.
I agree with what Lea said, that some people tell you that you should hate the movie just because, but others can accept it for what it is. I'm glad it was finally released, and screw the haters! |

Re: Howard The Duck: Special Edition --> March 10, 2009!
Somehow I totally forgot that this was coming out, and of course the Best Buy site is down for maintenence so I cant check to see if my local store has it in stock. I guess I could call the store.

Re: Howard The Duck: Special Edition --> March 10, 2009!
Definitely wasn't promoted at my local stores. Have browsed a dozen or more different stores over the past few days and didn't see this anywhere.

I miss those days. Best Buy and Target, for examples, still have obvious new release sections, but don't put nearly every new release there like they used to.

Re: Howard The Duck: Special Edition --> March 10, 2009!
I found about a dozen copies at Movie Trading Company marked at $10

Re: Howard The Duck: Special Edition --> March 10, 2009!
My BB had three or four of them in the comedy section when I looked last night. They had one less when I left since I bought one. Waldorf, MD store.

Re: Howard The Duck: Special Edition --> March 10, 2009!
Working for Best Buy here out in Goodyear, AZ, we only received two copies on Tuesday morning, and they were gone in 30 minutes (One of them actually went to one of my managers). We received 8 more copies tonight, but who knows how long they will last this time?

Re: Howard The Duck: Special Edition --> March 10, 2009!
Went to 3 different stores looking for this on Tuesday. I was an idiot to think I'd find something I wanted on new release day at Best Buy. Finally found one lone copy at Coconuts for the surprisingly low price of $9.99 (I was amazed it wasn't $27 there).
The film looks great, and is pretty much as I remembered it. Enjoyed the documentaries. Man, what's the deal with Lea Thompson? She looks virtually unchanged. She must have a grotesquely aging portrait of herself hidden in her attic. |

Just watched all the extras and the movie today. Surprisingly good quality video for DVD and the extras were quite nice for the price.

Re: Howard The Duck: Special Edition --> March 10, 2009!
Yup, had a blast watching this today. What a trip down memory lane. Probably first time seeing this in a decade if not more. And it help up very well. But then again I'm a sucker for 80s movies, and this is quintessential 80s. You can't get any more 80s than that. So I enjoyed it tremendously. The audio and video quality are surprisingly good. It probably didn't even look or sound this way back in '86. There should've been a commentary though, but for under ten bucks I can't complain too much.

The extras are surprisingly good. The main documentary was great (and informative) and I loved the vintage stuff.

Just picked this up today! Great movie! I remember this as a kid

Re: Howard The Duck: Special Edition --> March 10, 2009!
As I mentioned elsewhere, I was stunned to learn that John Barry scored this movie. Like many of you, I was a kid when it came out, and this was before I paid attention to such things as composers.
I was disappointed by the absence of a commentary track, especially given how willing several key players were to discuss the film (evidenced by the new features). I was not entirely surprised Tim Robbins divorced himself from this film, though I was surprised George Lucas was nowhere to be found. Then, I half expect him to be planning to re-release it with a CGI Howard wherein he will take complete credit for having made the project brilliant. Still and all, a very welcome addition to the library. I'm still entertained by what constituted a PG movie prior to the addition of the PG-13 rating. |

PG-13 rating was introduced on July 1, 1984.... Howard The Duck was released August 1, 1986.... So if they felt it qualified as PG-13, it could have been... |

Re: Howard The Duck: Special Edition --> March 10, 2009!
PG-13 was definitely mandated in 1984, because of Red Dawn and Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom.
