Because it takes away the magic of the movie or something like that. He also said people would come up to him and ask him questions about stuff he said on dvd commentarys so he stopped doing them.

I didn't mean to sound overly haughty/supremely knowledgeable, by the way.

You mean plastic holders that have sharp plastic hubs and corners, as opposed to flat paper? Try rubbing a dvd against paper and then against plastic - see which one does more damage. They used to package vinyl records (which are less durable than dvds) in the same manner for years without too much problem. Why's is such an issue all of a sudden?

Ok...but in such cases the disc isn't required to slide against the plastic, is it? Unfair comparison. Give me plastic hubs with a "risk" of severe scuffing via hard corners and said hubs over a required sliiiiiiide across paper, or any surface for that matter, any day. I'll take my chances on the hubs.

It's also easy to get fingerprints on the discs unless you want to let the discs slide out (they didn't on mine, the cardboard held the discs pretty firmly). Only a very small part of the disc sticks out of the pockets, so it's hard to grab hold of the disc without putting your fingers all over it. You can't grab the disc with one finger in the middle and one on the edge.

The first three photos posted earlier had me saying "what a great looking dvd set"...then I saw the fourth photo and said "nooooooooooo." I suppose one could place the disks into paper sleeves first before slipping them into the packaging, providing they receive a set that is not scratched to begin with. What a shame.
Also, it would be interesting to see the returns rate on this dvd set due to damaged disks...and whoever at Paramount/Miramax decided on this type of packaging certainly exercised poor judgement. I, for one, will return each set I purchase until I get one that is scratch free. For the price this set is commanding, I expect nothing less.

I think it looks really nice other than no trays...I think it would be worth it to put the discs in those plastic protector sleeves, they should fit in those overly large pockets. I wonder if the eventual Blu Ray will be in a standard case? Anyone have pics of the one disc release?
