I'm counting by movies, so if it's a double feature set, that's 2 movies.

A bunch of stuff is out in boxes in the garage from when I moved a couple years ago and most of that is VHS. The VHS that's out now is from when a store went out of business and I went through their horror and sci-fi section. Most of the VHS stuff I have is crap that's not out on DVD.

I also have some smaller piles of movies throughout my house.

Here's what the room looked like around the beginning of summer.

A couple at most. I'm still trying to catch up on first time viewing for over 3,000.

I would give this a C+...there is room to broaden the horizon, but there is still some cool stuff in there.
Always a work in progress, I always enjoy finding good docs and music in the cheap bins.

I was expecting a bunch of criterions and foreign films when I clicked on your collection, but you probably own most of the stuff I do...so I suppose that would also make your collection generic and bland, hm? just sayin...

Your collection is as unique as a Blockbuster DVD shelf, which is fine if you like Blockbuster Video. You also have too many TV shows which I can't believe that you would watch.

The best dvds in your collection is Chasing Amy, Knocked Up and The Fountain.

The only dvd that I would want from your collection is your Platoon Steelbook.

Decent martial arts collection, since you like Jet Li, Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. You NEED to buy IRON MONKEY!!! How can you not own IRON MONKEY?

Grade: C- for quality, B+ for quantity.

thank you, now you are thinking! If I had to tell someone to buy one martial arts film from each decade I would recommend:

1960s: Come Drink With Me
1970s: Enter the Dragon
1980s: can't think of one real stand-out. Eight Diagram Pole Fighter, Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain, Spooky Encounters and Jackie Chan flicks, for example
1990s: Iron Monkey
2000s: Hero

Ouch, another hypocrite(you own a decent percentage of what I do).

You make it sound like my collection is a bunch of Michael Bay films...that hurts. I'd say I own the best of what American-made films have to offer. Sorry that I don't delve into animated and foreign stuff.

So out of all the movies I own, which include such classics as The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, Goodfellas, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Memento, Once Upon A Time in America, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Fargo, Forrest Gump, Road to Perdition, Magnolia, and numerous others... Chasing Amy, The Fountain, and Knocked Up are the best in your opinion? I question your taste...

Yes, I own alot of GREAT tv shows, and yes, I've seen all of them...a majority of them when they aired on TV.

I suppose I should thank you for thinking I have a decent martial arts collection, but I think Iron Monkey is overrated. At least that's what I remember when I watched it a few years ago.

i probably have more Criterion and foreign/other region stuff then your drama section alone.

honestly, if you can't take the criticism, why the hell did you ask, especially as your first post ever? with your retorts and taking it personally, you will have a very short shelf life here. just sayin...

For what it's worth, It looks to me like you have a pretty decent collection. I wouldn't be ashamed of it at all. We all have our own personal tastes. Several films I own are also found in your collection.

yeah, but your collection is like any other collection at Blockbuster Video - just mainstream films (not having anything to do with Michael Bay). If you ask for your collection to be graded, you should be able to take criticism. Highly reviewed films on IMDB (or "classics") don't make a good dvd collection.

I don't think my collection is that great either...Everyone shares the majority of the same dvds - it's the different ones that count. I would give my collection a "C". Very few of us in here have great quality DVD collection. Anyone can have a quantity collection which isn't special. Quality and uniqueness is rare. Check out PRO-BASS, GIGGLES, and GILES DVD collections for the prototype dvd collections.

You've got a nice selection of Woody Allen films, but you have very few pre-80's movies. You might want to explode the world of classic cinema a bit more. As far as what you own of modern cinema, overall it's pretty good.

Re: Rate My DVD Collection

It's not bad. Like with Osiris3657, it's mostly comprised of movies you can find in a Blockbuster (as toddly put it). Not that it's a bad thing... if it's what you like, more power to ya. You do have a few gems such as "Brotherhood of the Wolf."

For some of us, we like to see movies that are... outside of the box, so to speak. Yes, we do share some of the same movies but many of my movies are titles you probably may not have heard of... and not your cup 'o tea.

And that's okay

Someone wanna give mine a go

I own quite a bit that's not on there due to DVD Aficionado not having the proper releases listed. My Australian Lexx box sets are some of those not listed.

Can't take the criticism? What, do you think I'm sitting here crying? Just FYI, I don't take anything someone says on message boards personally.

So in your words, I should just smile and nod in agreement at criticism...can't defend it in any way, because that would be seen as having taken it personal.

So I'll have a short shelf life here eh? I wouldn't want that now would I...feel like I just entered "Oz" note to self: avoid Scott, he might have you shanked for responding to criticism
