I love how DVDAf's front page now has "If you would like to demonstrate/communicate how happy (or perhaps how unhappy) you are with the new site, please stop by at the new donation screen and add your comment (with your dvdaf id)."
Wow, thanks I'd love to pay to tell you how much I hate this. I'll pass actually.

I've given up on even keeping an online listing of my dvds. DVDAf2.0 isn't so much unattractive as seriously gimped, and I can't stand any of the other database sites out there. It's sort of like the end of a minor era. :\

Rite now I'm using Microsoft Word to keep records of what I own, need to watch, releases I'm getting every week, etc...
I'm going to try & create (or re-create) a DVD Collection database with Microsoft Excel. I know It's going to take longer than just using a DVD database website but I personally find it easier.
I use the DVD Spending tab forum here to keep track of how much I spend every week so I got that part covered.

Not really understanding all the complaints about DVDAf 2.0. The site isn't complete. I agree, it's sort of a pain right now, and there are some features (like 1 page for an entire collection) that aren't coming back, but I think after some time we'll see a lot of improvements.
Bring on the submission page already so I can fix up my wishlist for future releases.

If it's not complete, why make everyone migrate over?
It should've been kept in beta until it was working well and most of the issues were taken care of.

That I can't simply link to my collection on ONE PAGE and SORTED the way I want is absolutely ridiculous since it was a huge part of the original design.

It's that or move everything into the one main unsorted and jumbled "owned" link that they still need to clink repeatedly through, page after page.

That will merge all the folders into one collection. You'll still have the 50 per page cap though.

I hate feeling like the only one defending the site, but I can totally understand the switch. Why operate 2 sites and pay to host all that. Dealing with the inconvenience isn't too bad. In a week or so we'll be able to submit new titles. Just keep track somehow else for now. I mean, it's still free. Not much to complain about really.

As for keeping track of DVDs somehow else, I am. It's called DVD Spot. I'm never going back either.

I can't believe they're still tooling with color formats instead of fixing the basics like the ability to add titles. Makes you wonder where their priorities lie.
I just realized something... I tried to post in the forums, and it said I wasn't logged in. When i tried to do so, it says I'm not registered! Even though my page with all my movies has been migrated over and is up in another browser window at this very moment.
If they can't fix simple problems in a month's time, they're going to lose a lot more members.

OK, so after reading the whole thread, I decided to mess around on DVDSpot. I never really liked the visual appearance, but the Loaned feature alone has me sold. Unless DVDAf 2.0 really turns around, I'm done with it. I guess I never really knew what I was missing.
Question: How do I create the equivalent of sub-folders in my owned. I want to seperate my TV on DVD and my Criterions from the rest of my collection.

If you place DVDs in separate custom filters you will be able to see each group individually or the entire list. Create a custom filter called "Criterions" and you will be able to see just those if you choose. You can then also use custom titles to list them in order of spine number if you like.
There may be a better way, if so i'm sure you'll have an answer soon.
Now, if only DVDSpot will allow you to print a list (export a file) in order of custom titles.

I have stayed out of this thread for as long as possible, hoping that dvdaf 2.0 would eventually come around to being a decent application, but to no avail. In the meantime, I have poked around DVDSpot, DVDProfiler and a few others mentioned. DVDSpot sounds great and all but seems like I would have to submit too many of my Region 2 discs. I have now started using DVDPedia. The only unfortunate thing (for some) is that as far as I can tell, you cannot provide a link for others to check out your collection. I, on the other hand, pretty much mainly use it for my own reference so that doesn't bother me much. Adding a title is as simple as can be, you just fill in all the info you want and drag and drop a pic of the DVD cover and that's it. It will search through numerous online sites as well - a bunch of the Amazon sites, DVDGo, DVD.it, imdb, and many others. You should check it out if you haven't gone to DVDSpot already.
Oh, I should probably mention that I am using a Mac. I don't know if there is a PC version or not....

Isn't the idea usually to try to make people happy with a product/service? A few years ago, I donated $20 to Ed, so it's never been free to me. I feel like a sucker now.

EDIT: I looked it up and it looks like its an $18 program. It does mention that you can link others to your collection online.

DVDAf seemed a little more intuitive for me. I have filters set for my Criterions and TV on DVD, but I want to custom sort them so they list at the end of my collection after the general movies? Any easy way to do this? I really am having trouble figuring this out or finding it on the DVDSpot forums.

You could use the custom sort and put all your Criterions as ZZSpineNumber (ZZ085, ZZ109, ZZ198). That way all your Criterions will list after your regular films and in spine number order (if thats what you want). Then you can make all your TV Shows have a Custom Sort of ZZZ and they will list after the Criterions.
Personally I prefer the filter system better than a folder based system since I can break sections down further and cross-list things. Just seems more user-friendly to me.

If you open up the individual movie details you will see a "Filters and Sorting" window. The "Custom Sort" will normally be set to Default (basically the title w/o the "The"). Change the default to whatever title you want and it will sort it alphabetically by that title- but it will NOT display your custom title, only the original.
Under "Custom Sort" I renamed all of my TV series beginning with "ZZ", now they are all list last, but in alpha order. In another example I named Magnum Force, Dirty Harry: Magnum Force (and all of the other DH movies) so it would list grouped with the first movie. I also used Custom Sort to fix annoying little things that bugged me. For example LOTR: Return of the King would list before LOTR: The Two Towers ("R" before "T").
After all of that (it was actually very easy and quick) I simply set at the top of my Owned list to "Sort by: Custom", "Results per page:All", and "Save View Preferences".
I hope that helps.
