very cool and might be worth checking out. how does it work? can you assign a sort number to each title, or can you only do broad sorts like by release date or purchase date?

You could always sort by Alpha, purchased Date, rating or Genre, but now you can enter your own Custom Sort title. Within the profile for the DVD you will see it under Filters and Sorting, Click the Edit button and then you can change it to whatever you want, it is the title by default. You then can choose "Cutom Sort" from the drop down to view it in your custom order.

Is this just a local change, or will your collection appear this way to others as well?

It depends on the link you supply them.

http://www.dvdspot.com/list.php?memb...by=custom_sort

If I use that link it will go to my "Owned" DVDs and sort by "Custom Sort"

See they listened to some of the complaints and finally added some color:

Genius idea there to add black text onto backgrounds that come in dark grey, darker grey and super-dark blue.

Now if they'd just allow 500 titles per page like before, we're all set.

They never got rid of folders in the first place.

Basically, they have. All empty folders got deleted from migrating and you can't create new ones in 2.0.

OK, since this seems to be the DVDSpot Love Thread I have a question. I just spent an hour or so Custom sorting my collection to reflect exactly how it is on the shelf (sequels grouped together, TV separate but alpha'd at the end, etc).

I would like to print out a list to reflect that custom order (to check for missing or misplaced DVDs). The problem is that DVDSpot does not include a custom field when "exporting" the file to Excel, so there is no way to sort the spreadsheet that way.

Does anyone know of a different way? Or is DVDSpot planning on making this possible? I would think it would be simple, add one more field to the "export to file" function.

Not possible currently but I'll post your request in the forum as it should be a quick and easy thing to add.

Ther is an "Owned_Custom" field when I export it, but it is completely blank for all rows/cells.

Maybe I should be over at DVDSpot's forum. I've never posted there. I'll try it.
Thanks

Yeah, I mistook that as I just quickly glanced at the export file (as I haven't played with it in quite sometime) instead of the requested custom sort field.

Thanks
I posted the request for you so hopefully it will be added in the very near future.

OK, my apologies; you are correct. I originally misread that as all the old folders being deleted during migration regardless if there was anything in there, when that is clearly not the case.

And I was. Though it was nice of them to change up their "all white, all the time" look a bit.

So, I bought Delicious-Monster, even though 40 bucks sounded rather ridiculous, but the trial version got me hooked. I've just about got all my DVDs in there, and then will start on books. I'm a bit disappointed that there's no way with the program itself to have your collection online. I guess there are a couple of third party programs that let you do it, but I could get neither program to work. I looked on their website and I guess Delicious-Monster is working on a 2.0 that will probably include this feature, but while all the other updates were free, 2.0 is going to cost yah. So, I just spent 40 bucks for something thats going to be obsolete in a couple months and they're going to charge me more to replace it. Nice. Apple ap. Apple sensibilities.

The thing I hated about DM was the bloat. It kept image files of every "related items" item on your harddrive (which amounts to a huuuuuge amount of space when you have a whole lot of items in your inventory), instead of just updating that section dynamically when you clicked that tab. Them asking a user to pay 40 bucks again for that new update is a kick to the crotch as well. It crashed entirely too often for me to pay up in the first place, and frankly, I couldn't justify paying that much for a program that, while pretty, didn't do all that much.

I just noticed Amazon has an inventory thing....it automatically adds stuff you buy from them, but you can add other things as well. You can check/uncheck specific items to share publicly or keep private.

Anyone used it? If you buy a whole lot from Amazon that would be a time saver, though I don't know how it is to add new stuff. And of course I don't know how long it will be supported.
Here's mine (I think).

I got that too, from another website--my email address ends in @nc.rr.com like many Roadrunners. Is yours in that format, or is it @somewhere.com?
