hot collectible sells out in first day -- this isn't anything new. do we really need to analyze this to death?

What had happened yesterday are as follows:
1. Bestbuy Employees snagged a copy of it prior opening (Lets say a max of 5 grabbed a hold and kept a copy already of their own)
2. Early Birds Flocked the 300 Nest on door opening (an assumption of 10)
3. Early Hoarders or Auction Merchants grabbed more than 1 (It depends how greedy they were)
4. You got the In-Store Bestbuy.com customers (an assumption of 10)
5. And finally the word-of-mouth consumers who rushed immediately to stores/In-store pickup reservation (either they get some or NONE)
And today...
- Disgruntled consumers who didnt get the Limited Edition
- Blame Bestbuy Rant for screwing up (both online and in-store)
- Happy auction merchants
- Not losing hope for restock consumers (virtue of patience)
- Late buying frenzy
- Hoarders marked up value

I should have bought two ...
So, did anyone else do what I did and buy both the Best Buy and the Future Shop exclusives with the intention of combining them to create an "Ultimate Edition" of the film?

Still plenty of extras in my area.
I still think this will end up being re-stocked, with dozens littering BB stores like all those V for Vendetta, Little Mermaid, Clerks 2, and Napoleon Dynamite sets.

I just got the time to do the Target downloads....
They are making us join Movielink to get the stuff...
Just had to edit out my bad language....
this is just crap.. I wish it would have cost more $$ for 2 reasons..
1 I would not have bought it in the 1st place..
2 I would have a reason to take it back & shove it in the managers face...
the sticker does say its done by Movielink but does not say you have to join..

Another question about the Best Buy exclusive from Best Buy Canada ... is the cover on the dvd inside bilingual, or is it English only? The reason I ask is that I am planning to sell the dvd from the giftset to recoup some money (given that I also bought the steelbook), and whether or not the cover is bilingual is a factor. I haven't opened my set yet.

Bought the 2-disc yesterday and watch it that night. Great movie.
I'm a little annoyed that WB didn't even included a trailer for the movie cause I thought that trailer pretty rock. Anyone know where I can find that trailer in any of the WB dvd that out now?

I've been randomly putting in major cities (LA, Chicago, Miami, NY and Dallas) and other than Evanston Illinois, they're all out of stock.
To the companies, trailers are generally used to garner interest in a film. If you already own the film, they have no real reason to show you the trailer. I know a lot of you like trailers because they have different scenes, or you have memories of a certain trailer, but it's just not my thing.

I was getting concerned when people were telling me the Best Buy Canada pre-orders were sold out (which makes no sense since they are pre-orders). My FS tin failed to ship on the 1st day of release so I thought I was screwed. To my delight, it says my steelbook shipped today so I hope I'll be a satisfied customer by tomorrow night.

*please take note that this is not actual, I based out from 5 stores I inquired in Southern CA
The company currently operates 852 U.S. Best Buy stores, 47 Canada Best Buy stores
Bestbuy Stores are as follows:
852 US
47 Canada
total 899 store
with and approximate number of 30 per store that gives us around 26,970 LEs or 27,000 (if rounded off)
Possible online stock maybe:
2000 for Bestbuy.Com
1000 for Bestbuy.CA
Roughly the total numbers for the Helmet's production run is at
27,000 (Stores)
2,000 (Bestbuy.com)
1,000 (Bestbuy.ca)
30,000 < The approximate total of Bestbuy Helmet LE released last July 31st

They disappeared in less than a day at the 2 Best Buys locally. I thought about buying another copy but then thought about how I'd feel if someone snagged an extra copy when I needed the last one. Karma ya know.
The set is great. The Helmet is rather heavy and the embossed cards are also very nice. I have yet to open the DVD though. Of all the companies BEst Buy has the best promos. That's about the only new item I buy these days. If it has a promo.

Any Futureshop steelbooks talk? anyone? ... looks like the discussions are more with the giftset...
FYI, the steel book is harder to get and lesser in quantity released.

Just finished watching my 2-disc special edition. The movie flew by and was better on a second viewing. I must also finally admit that WB releases are not too great in terms of PQ as of late. As mentioned somewhere above, there was tons of noise and grain in the earlier scenes. I finally decided to shoot WB an email, in what I am sure will be a futile attempt to get something done. I hope this isn't against any of the forum rules but I am including the email that I sent:

I wanted to contact Warner Home Video in response to what I consider the diminishing quality of the studio's DVD transfers on new releases. As of late, many of the studio's big releases have sported somewhat inferior transfers when compared to discs from other studios. I am an avid film collector and watch many movies, and I have noticed through visiting home theater aficionado and DVD websites that others share my concerns. Although catalog titles like the Green Mile Special Edition look excellent, new releases like The Departed, Blood Diamond and 300 are not exceptionally impressive. In what I hope is not a ploy to get consumers to switch to high definition at this time, new releases feature a lot of graininess and "noise" in the picture, and I have noticed that it is almost always much more evident at the beginning of the film. Some of the early scenes of 300 appeared as if a screen was placed over the image. Although I suppose a casual viewer may not notice this dip in quality, I must express my disappointment. Although I am not currently ready to upgrade to high-def, I expect the same quality that Warner Brothers provided since the onset of DVD. A simple browsing of DVD discussion sites like I mentioned would likely yield similar opinions and I hope that this issue can be addressed on future releases. Thank you for reading.

I have to disagree; I realize that some of the graininess is normal, I saw it in the theater also. However, some of the early scenes are NOT like they were in the theater. I may be totally off base, but I just do not remember it looking like mosquito netting in from of one character's face.
