a quick trip to the USPTO shows that intervocative applied for a trademark on dvd profiler on march 27th, 2007. it appears the IVS/invelos divorce was not so amicable and this brouhaha is over the naming rights to "dvd profiler". why had they not trademarked this years ago when the program was first released?

Or why didn't Invelos trademark it just before 3.0 was released? All of this could've been avoided.

In any case, if it is just about the name, how easy is it for Invelos just to rename it, and in turn to the appropriate changes to the actual program?

I think I'll just stick with DVD Spot. This all sounds too complicated.

Now I'm also glad I didn't move to 3.0.

But is 2.4 still going to be getting updates? For example, the new Major League still isn't getting any data.

Is there another program that is easy to move to, that won't make me go grab each and every single DVD I own and re-enter???

No go with the Closer Blu-ray I tried to enter today either.

IIRC, one of the threads at IVS mentioned that the 2.4 db is not being updated while this conflict is ongoing. one suit kills two products.

Hey, I have a GREAT idea for Invelos. Rename it DVDCOLLECTOR. Then we can all get back to using a really nice product.

I still can't believe Ken Cole (the creator of DVDP and Invelos) didn't trademark the name. Maybe he was so focused on getting 3.0 released and/or didn't think (from what I've read) getting stabbed in the back by those at IVS... (if it is about the name).

I feel your pain! I paid a few days ago litterally like two days before it and am left without the database. I've thought long and hard about stopping my CC payment but I'll probably stick it out.

maybe this ass should have had all his ducks in a row before breaking off and going with his own company and collecting 30 bucks from several fans of his software only to have it stop working 100 percent with in a month or so..no warning or explanation via email to registered users..how hard would that have been? it sucks being in the middle of some pissing contest between these two companies..

If you can export it to a text or .csv file, you can import it (minus purchase related info) at DVDSpot.

If you wanted to enter purchase dates, prices, sources, etc., that would take quite a bit more work.

Guys this should be sorted out fairly quickly so I wouldn't sweat it just yet. I will still be sticking with 3 and if people want 3 to survive then asking for money back won't help the situation. Just a bit of patience

you posted the same thing at the IVS forums. this does nothing to assuage the concerns of people who actually use the product. according to this post at a computer forensics forum, ken cole is looking for someone to examine the code, and thus, the potential for a protracted dispute exists. the customers of both IVS and invelos would probably relax more if a timetable to dispute resolution would be made available.

bull..i paid 30 bucks for something that stopped functioning without any warning or notification..I already filed a dispute with paypal and was refunded my 30 bucks within the hour
again this crap should have been sorted out BEFORE putting the product on the paying market

Damn, this is too bad. Well, I registered about a year ago so I won't ask for a refund. I'll just continue to enter new titles' UPCs, and when they get this sorted out, the profiles will all update. I mostly use it as just a list anyway, without much report work.

At least with a local program like this, I'm glad I still can enter new titles manually, unlike an online-only catalog that could go away.

All I have seen is a lot of people overeacting until all the facts are known. It has been quite sad to see people basically self destructing over this. I would hate to see a real crisis. The post in the forensics forum you refer to (if it was made by Ken) says 'may' include testimony which again if it is legite indicates that a trial may not be necessarily forthcoming. Surely people have other things to do with their lives than enter DVD profiles for a couple of weeks (do it manually if they must).

Yep if it all goes bad I'm sure that money will be refunded and people can go about their business as usual. It's certainly nothing to flame fellow forum members about which has been happening at IVS.

I'm sure 3 will be back in one form or another and until then why can't people show a little patience? Being retired I'm far from wealthy but I can handle the loss of $30 for a while.

Skimming through these posts makes me all too happy to switch back to DVD Spot. I tried them a few years ago and got a little annoyed at all the bugs they were trying to work out. Now, they seem to have everything in order, and I've finished entering the last of my discs today. DVD Profiler was nice for a time, but I haven't even entered discs into it for a while. There's just too much to it. Too many different things within it that I've never used and most likely never would find any use for. DVD Spot is nice and simple. "These are the movies I own." Done. Plus, getting submissions through is a lot easier, too. It was like pulling teeth to get the elitist pricks at Profiler to let anything go through.

Bye-bye, Profiler.
