The Target ad claims their "Target Exclusive Deluxe Edition" "includes bonus content and the original script for The Departed"
I'd heard about the script being included but I'm curious about this "bonus content". The idea of exclusive metal packaging at Best Buy is cool but for me additional DVD content ALWAYS wins out so I'll be waiting to buy it there in hopes that the "bonus content" on the Target edition is DVD material.

The 2-Disc Steel Case at Best Buy is definitely a no brainer for me... however, i really do love the artwork for the standard 2-Disc set... so, if the Target exclusive has the standard 2-Disc artwork under the inevitable slip cover artwork shown on their ad, I might get both. The script is certainly appealing.
This is also my favorite movie in the last 5 years, so, i'm more than willing to buy two copies.

If the steelbook has the two overlapping discs like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre UE, I won't be getting that one. I like the idea of a steelbook but I absolutely hate the packaging of the overlapping discs.

Most buyers should just go with the LE steelbook from Best Buy or the 2-disc exclusive set from Target or the regular 2-disc, because if The Departed goes onto win Best Picture at the Oscars, it's almost certain everyone will have to rebuy an even better release perhaps. So why not buy the best release possible! Hi-Def buyers probably should also consider a potential double-dip, I am surprised many here have not even brought this up.

I'm going steelbook for this one. HD DVD is overpriced due to the combo and missing a major extra. Maybe I'll pick up the HD DVD down the road, but I'm going with the steelbook for now.

Hmm, it looks like the Target ad shows a different cover for the SE too. I don't want the Steelbook packaging, so I'll probably get it at Target, and I'm interested to see if it's just the standard 2 disc set with a script packaged on or something different.

So will Best Buy have enough copies of the SE in the Steelbook if I can't get there until Wednesday? IOW, how quick will this sell out, or will they have a shit-load of these on hand?

Same here.My BB had roughly 20-30 of these steelbooks in today. Here's the deal: I live in a smaller college town, and a sizeable blizzard hit last night/today. However, I wasn't the only crazy fool driving through the snowstorm to grab one of the steelbooks this morning. Probably 2 or 3 others came in specifically looking for it.
If at all possible, I'd run and grab one of these exclusives (either Target or Best Buy) quick. It IS the 2-Disc Special Edition and the steelbook is quite attractive. Don't worry about any wierd "dents" on the back of the DVD, either. That dent is a ridge caused by the snot glue keeping the back UPC info sheet on.

for those waiting to pick this up tomorrow: my best buy had about 50+ of the steelbooks in and they weren't even in the 'new release' section they were in the 'action' section. the 5 other people waiting at the door picked up fool screen 1 disc versions. idiots.

Just got back from Target and I'm very disappointed with the packaging. There is a slipcover over a shrinkwrapped package that has the standard 2-disc set with the script attached to the back. First, the plastic case for the DVDs was really mangled, bubbled and bent on the front. Also, even though it is shrinkwrapped on, they attach the script (which is just white paper) with that rubber-like glue to the back of the DVD case, and while it is easily removeable, it leaves a big grease-print on the front of the script.

Best Buy

Very cool, but the DVDs are on top of each other.
Target

Very weak with only the script and cheap slipcover.
My winner is Best Buy. And if you can wait until Friday, you can use the 10% off coupons.

My first steelbook, and I must say that I'm impressed. This is fantastic packaging. I bought it blind because of the case (something I never do -- until now, thinking if I waited, it would be long gone). Unless my BB had more in the stockroom, or planned on getting more, there weren't many. (So waiting until Friday to use the coupon is a gamble.)
