The one-hour documentary on the first disc should've been dropped and moved over to the second disc to let for some better compression (and audio selections). That's just my opinion and it would've made the second disc looked more stacked.

DA-YUM!

This thing's going for around $70 on ebay and close to $100 on Amazon Mktplc.

Has there been a dvd that has had such an inflated price so soon after it's release date?

I think its inflated because it is so soon after the release date. People are thinking about this movie now. Wait a few weeks and the prices will cool down. If you got one, nows the time to sell.

This news is making me very nervous. I actually had a copy in my hands, but now I'm worried my copy through DeepDiscountDVD might not ship. I also ordered a few other DVDs along with United 93, and most of those have already shipped.

Walmart has a two pack. Single disc United 93 with a movie called The Guys (with Sigourney Weaver and Anthony Lapaglia) for $13.87 YMMV

Thanks for the heads up, now I need to cancel my order with DeepDiscountDVD before/if it ships.

I already got my confirmation email from Target.com.

When this was announced here: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=470837

... I made this comment:

Seems I was right... you can only get this through Canadian retailers as an import special order, just like Munich, at a cost of over $45.

... I'd just like to sarcasticly say this is a really good movie to be trying to pull this sort of stunt with!!!

If I may make a suggestion....usually the brick and motar stores place the 2-disc sets away from the one disc sets. I went through my local Best Buy and that was indeed the case.

Second, I have seen this happen with a few others. Amazon will have X copies. They usually under order, so they clear out fast. Then around three-four days later they are re-stocked. Don't panic.

And if you are looking for something older (Cinderella Man comes to mind), each time you go to the store, take a look for it. I walked through and saw the aforementioned Cinderella Man and I snagged it. Price was a little high, but it was worth it.

is there a reason why the 2 disc version became so elusive and 'limited edition'? This is becoming more of a trend, than an annoyance.

I think Amazon will get them in again. I've seen them get OOP Criterions in stock recently.

I just received a notice from DVDEmpire:

We have just been informed by our distributors that the title 'United 93:
2 Disc Limited Edition' is not available in the forseeable future. This
title is not discontinued and usually the studio is just waiting to create
another batch. This process could take anywhere from two months to one
year before the product is available again.
It was removed from my order (which included the Criterion Brazil update, also on backorder).

I went ahead and immediately ordered from Overstock. We'll see how that goes.

This plus the Munich fiasco is really frustrating.

I'd like to get the LE, but for a 50 minute documentary it is not worth the hassle.

That being said, as soon as I buy the single disc version someone will get the LE back in stock and available.

Yes the reason is to drive up demand. What happens is, they print limited numbers, so it kind of forces you to go for the one disc. All the sudden the 2 disc hit the market (possibly at a higher price) and people buy them up.

The studio expects the buyer who is there every Tuesday to grab the first run...and the peopel who aren't sure on the second pass.

I would be a good example. I am there every Tuesday. Sometimes they forget to put things out...so I go to another local store and I get it. It all comes down to how often and early you are willing to go to the store.

I would like to pick up the 2 disc edition, but I will hold out for the HD DVD release. It should have all of the extras that the 2 disc has on it.

Ordered from DDD before the release date and my order was cancelled this AM. Tried to order from target.com but I'm doubting I'll get it.

Yeah, I pre-ordered last week from DDD for the 2-disc and got the cancellation today. Oh well...
