United 93: LE - Cancelled?

I was just looking on Amazon, and they are no longer taking preoders for this United 93: LE. I then looked on Wal-Mart.com and it was removed from their website too. It's still available some places online, but is this another example of LEs like Munich and Jarhead from earlier this year?

It's going to be very Limited Ed. Like Jarhead, Munich, and Cinderella Man. I know it's not cancelled, our distributor already sent us a shipment and its listed in there.

Here we go again.... Create immediate want for a product by micro-producing it. People will buy this just for the collecting value, not the movie itself. This practice, IHO, is getting tiring, especially for those who want to buy the nicest edition but can't get it immediately. Then you have to go on Ebay and get ripped off by some swindler...

Or wait for the HD version. It'll have all the extras

True, but I guess the optimistic part of me hopes that one side of the HD war would win soon so I can start buying discs with out worrying I will be using them for Frisbees a year from now.

I expect that one reason WM could have removed it from their site was due to them having their own exclusive bonus disc, as they're doing with a lot of films now; but, since Amazon doesn't have it available, and BestBuy.com raised the price of it to $29.95, I have to think we're going through this same situation again...

Check out this thread . You can order the 2-disc from CircuitCity.com for $19.99 (before shipping and tax, $22.30 after all that for me).

Why would you use them for frisbees? It's not like they will stop working or something if the side you pick doesn't win.

You are right, for a while. Then, the side that won would come out with a special edition. I wouldn't be able to give it away.

Strictly speaking, that's not entirely true. The Anniversary Edition of Apollo 13 features the theatrical trailer, which is absent from the HD-DVD release. Very minor difference, sure, but if the trailer is important to you (the generic "you"), the high-definition release might not give you everything.

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/united-93.html

Universal Home Video has announced single ($29.98) and double-disc ($30.98) editions of United 93 which stars David Alan Bashe and Richard Bekins. This Paul Greengrass directed September 11th drama will be available to own from the 5th September. The film itself will be presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with both English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, and DVS Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo tracks. Extras on the single-disc will include an audio commentary with the director, and a United 93 - The Families and the Film documentary which takes a look at the real-life stories behind the brave passengers and crew. The two-disc limited edition will include all of that, along with a 50 minute documentary entitled "Chasing Planes: Witnesses to 9/11".

I figured I should pre-order it. I haven't been able to buy Jarhead, Munich, or Cinderella Man and I'm not going to let that happen again.

Ugh...I hate it when they do this. I had to hunt down Jarhead on release day, and now I fear I will be doing the same for this fine film.

Wasn't planning to pick this one up on the first day, but I might have to now.

I was planning to stop by BB for Lost anyway, so it's not that big a deal, but it's still annoying.
