Well, fuck.

I've been waiting years for them to release season two.

And now that they're releasing it, I can't get it because I want to wait for the complete set to get the whole enchilada and don't want to double dip on S2.

I sort of have a hard time believing that Paramount would really consider those who bought a Japanese import of the pilot. I mean, come on.

My thoughts exactly. How much money do these studios think we have?

well, considering that the S1 DVDs are going for $80-100 now on ebay, there's probably no better time to sell them off to make some extra cash to stow away for the complete box set.. Damn you Paramount!

But of course there's the nagging question- if people know about the complete box set, will enough people hold out and NOT by the separate S2 to make Paramount think there ISN'T a demand for a complete set and scrap it? Boy that would suck if I sold off my S1 and then that happened. :-(

...or if they screw up some aspect the S1 portion of the set. That would be just as frustrating. I've got the official releases of the pilot and S1 (and homegrown copy of S2 on DVDR)... so unless there is an official announcement (and subsequent review) of a complete boxset, I'm just going to sit tight and wait for the S2 release.

What are you considering to be the official release of the pilot? If it exists, I want it.

Yeah, the Artisan S1 set is amazing in sound (DTS) and picture quality. I'm getting the Season 2 disc. Besides, if these don't sell extremely well, Paramount will drop the complete set idea like a hot cup of joe.

don't forget all those commentaries that probably won't show up again either.

I'd hate to hold off on the second season and then the complete series gets bumped back for years and years then, right after the second season is out of print, Paramount cancels all plans for a complete series set. Call me cynical, but I've stopped getting excited about any Twin Peaks related news of a release a while back.

If they do release the series set, I just hope they make the pilot available separately. I have season one, I will buy season two, and I already own the import version of the pilot, which is the complete original pilot, but is lacking a bit in audio and video quality. A restored version of that same pilot would be a welcome double dip for me.

the uk 4 disc set (with the pilot, hahahahaha) is on sale at 16.99 in virgin megastore right now. this usually indicates a rerelease in iminent.

i cant recall watching a single episode, is it worth me holding off until season 2 comes out or should i buy season 1 now???

Is the audio and video quality the same on the R2 set as it is in the OOP R1 set? And are the extras the same?

The Pilot was a nightmare. I bought mine when word of them was just starting to spread. I paid something ridiculous like $150 for it because there was so much hysteria on ebay over it.

Months later it showed up on Amazon for an embarrassingly reasonable price.

It's a terrible disc by the way. It has major PAL speedup. (Can someone explain to me why that is considering it's an NTSC R0 disc?) I'd welcome a re-release of the pilot. Hopefully they will sell it individually eventually.

Although it's an NTSC disc, it was sourced from a PAL broadcast master.

The full bitrate DTS track exclusive to the OOP R1 release is missing. Extras are the same.

I've played the disc numerous times, and compared it to an airing on Bravo, and the disc that I have does NOT have any speedup whatsoever.

update: I examined the disc once again, and sure enough, there is a speed up. I hadn't noticed it before...

The pilot episode? Yes, it most certainly is sped up. Just listen to Cooper's voice. It's unmistakable.

The Pilot "Twin Peaks" disc without question suffers from PAL speedup. It's one of the only movies where I can easily hear the difference. In fact, this was the very disc purchase that introduced me to the issue of "PAL speedup".

That disc also introduced me to whacked-out 5.1 remixes. Some stupid, stupid remixing going on there.

I probably should... I now can hear the speed-up.

...but I wouldn't say that the speed-up is obvious to the casual observer. Upon closer re-examination I can notice a difference, but mostly because I was looking for it. Before, I could "sense" that there was something a bit off, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

Comments about the speed-up make it sound like it is Agent Dale Chipmunk who is investigating the case. And that's not the case.

So, yes there is a speed-up on the pilot disc, but not enough, IMO, to avoid it. Though if it gets re-released it will be a moot point.

Are we talking the Hong Kong Pilot release, or the one in the Twin Peaks season 1 UK box set? Are they the same one?

Did anyone else get the e-mail from Amazon that the release has been bumped to April 3?

This is great news... I just hope that it comes to pass.
I've been waiting forever - I gotta see if my mom still has all the old video tapes at her house in FL to tide me over till the box set is released.
