I don't know that that's actually been confirmed yet. I think we're still all living in rumorville.

Seen only parts of it--not enough to form a solid opinion. Just always looked like a low-budget '80s fantasy flick--least in my memory. Surprised it's getting more attention than one of the franchise films.
Actually, this makes sense if they are using that 3rd disc to hold the old "making-of" specials. They made one for every movie except IV (which was the only one produced by Golan/Globus, not the Salkinds).

And, yes, I don't know why Supergirl wouldn't be considered part of the series. Yes, it's a spin-off, but from the same production team, with Marc McClure reprising his role as Jimmy Olsen. It clearly takes place in the same milieu as the other films. It's as cheesy as they come, but I find it more watchable than III or IV, personally...

This from several sources:

"Late in 2006 (tentatively in November, timed to coincide with the DVD
release of Bryan Singer's Superman Returns), look for a 14-disc
Superman: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set. This will feature new
deluxe editions of all four of the original feature films, including a
Superman II: Special Edition with something called The Donner Cut.
This is being assembled by editor Michael Thaw based on the film's
original shooting script and Donnor's original notes. At least 50% of
the film will be footage you've never seen, more than 70% of it
directed by Donner. You'll also get Richard Lester's final theatrical
cut of the film. The Donner Cut will only be available on DVD in the
Ultimate Collector's Edition box set, although it will also be
released in HD-DVD (and likely Blu-ray Disc if that format is
available)."

"We were actually shown a clip of the new Donner Cut at the event - the
original opening to Superman II, in which Lois Lane notices a picture
of Superman in a copy of The Daily Planet... and then she looks at
Clark Kent standing nearby... and she begins drawing glasses, a suit
and hat on the picture of Superman. She figures it out. Then she tells
Clark she knows who she really is... and jumps out Perry White's
office window to prove she's right. Clark runs at super-speed
downstairs, and blows up at the falling Lois to slow her fall. She
lands safely in a fruit stand, by which time Clark has already run
back upstairs to preserve his identity. Someone asks him where Lois
is, and he replies, "Uh... she just stepped out for a minute."

"An interesting thing to note however, is that it seems Richard Donner
himself hasn't yet been involved (and is not involved in cutting the
new version of the film). During the event, I chatted with AICN's Drew
McWeeny (well known as "Moriarty" over there) who told me that he's
been interviewing Donner recently (watch for that to be posted on AICN
soon). The director has reportedly told Drew that he's not really
interested in revisiting the film. When asked during the event what
Donner's involvement was (whether or not he'd do commentary, etc),
Warner execs said, "That's still to be decided." Our guess is that the
studio is still negotiating with Donner to participate, and that it's
merely a matter of a dollar figure that everyone is happy with."

The box set is set to contain:

Superman Theatrical cut
Superman Director's Cut
Superman Special Features

Superman II Theatrical cut
Superman II Donner cut
Superman II Special Features

Superman III Theatrical cut
Superman III Extended cut
Superman III Special Features

Superman IV Theatrical cut
Superman IV 134 min cut

Supergirl Theatrical cut
Supergirl International cut
Supergirl Special Features

So start saving those pennies!!!
It's great that we get the original Superman II as well as the "director's cut"

So based on this, I should ebay my Supergirl LE DVD, right?

Besides the 105 min. Theatrical cut and the 124 min. International cut of Supergirl, there's also the 138 min. Director's cut from the Anchor Bay LE and a 150 min. Extended cut, that they could use. But why not just do seamless branching and put the different cuts (how ever many they chose to include) all on the same disc? I can see with Superman II putting them onto separate discs so that you can include commentaries with both Donner and Lester for each cut, but why with the others too?

Oh yeah, definitely rumorville. Like I said in my initial post, the guy who gave that info didn't say where he got it from, merely stating that he got it "from several sources" So get a pinch of salt and switch on your BS meters, just in case.

I will be amazed if we get to see the SUPERMAN IV excised footage. Rumor has it that it's been long destroyed; other myths say it's was saved for a SUPERMAN V.

I think the package is worth getting for the so-called Donner Cut of SUPERMAN II. But if we get the missing forty minutes of IV, then that alone justifies the retail price (for SUPERMAN fans, that is).

I hear you, and I agree that there is enough to tie it in nicely with the other films. I'm just surprised they're doing more for it than for Superman IV. Why not have a 15-disc set and have equal shares for all five films? But then, this is all based on a list that may not even be legitimate.

Saw this in HTF's thread about the Warners Studios chat...one of the statements the studio made was that, "Superman Returns will be a part of the 14-disc Superman collection."

Since the boxset contents I quoted above did not list Superman Returns, it can be safely said that the original poster from dvdtimes whom I quoted was somewhat inaccurate in his post.

I didn't participate in the Chat, but from what I hear is that all the edited footage for SUPERMAN IV has been found and will be presented as a bonus feature (that is, not incorporated into an extended cut) and that SUPERGIRL will not be part of the package, and that SUPERMAN II - Donner cut will be available separately.

Can't wait until November!

Great on the separate Donner cut. I thought they would have buried that gem to be forced to buy along with the otherwise whole heap.

If the extra footage of Supes IV is just a bonus then it would probably not have made the film better had it been incorporated with the intention that it was somehow been unfairly judged the whole time and there was a masterpiece behind the bad cut.

Or, it could be that Warners do not want to invest money in re-editing a film which is generally hated my most people.

After the release, someone will

On a related note, are people intending to pick-up the DVD edition, or the HD-DVD / Blu-Ray version as mentioned in the original piece?

This release may push me to really paring down the number of DVD's I buy and wait for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I still haven't decided for sure. I have until the next DeepDiscountDVD 20% off sale to decide

I'm overjoyed to hear that the theatrical cut of Superman will be part of this new set. Hopefully that means they will have the original sound effects as I still have yet to get used to the new sound in the opening credits 5 years later.

Justice League Unlimited:Season 1
Lois & Clark:Season 4
Krypto the Superdog:Vol 2
Superman Serials Collection(1948/1950)

Oh and I'm sorry about saying I'm not a big fan of Superman. I love him now Most all of those except Krypto Vol 2 & Adventures of Superman Series, and the single releases of the movies and the Collection(Not the Ultimate Set) I'll be getting.
And since 6 movies look to be included in the box,and Superman II likely to get 3-Discs(2-Disc Theatrical & 1-Disc Donner) that leaves 1 extra disc.... It will either be Superman:The Movie Theatrical or maybe a Extended Edition of the Documentary that comes in June.
June & October or November are gonna KILL me.

This was announced during today's Warner Chat at the HTF:

Jeffrey_Gray - A big hello to all those at Warner. 2006 is proving to be the
"year of Superman." Will we be seeing a release of the 17 Superman cartoons
produced by Max Fleischer and Famous Studios during the 40s? I know they're
in the public domain, but plenty of people would like to see an official,
restored release.

WARNER - all 17 Fleischer cartoons have been remastered and will be released
later this year in the Ultimate Superman Collection.

Guess you can add those to the disc count.

Also, during another Warner chat in Feb, they announced that Superman Returns is also a part of the box set.

Sorry if this is late to the game, but is anyone else kind of bothered with the rumored/confirmed inclusion of "Superman Returns" in the ultimate collector's box? I understand that it picks up where Superman II leaves off but that would mess with the continuity of Superman III and IV.

As a completist I understand the rationale. But as someone who is also certain there will be more Superman movies to follow "...Returns" I wonder is I and II will be included in future sets of the current, renewed franchise.
