They've got this thing about promo discs that I don't pretend to understand. There's a post in their support forum that outlines the rules, every so often we hound the owner to add them. If we can get more support over there, we might make a difference.

Uh, no, the Episode I DVD has the old puppet Yoda. The CGI replacement is nothing more than an ILM test and it will be included on the Episode III DVD. It would be foolish to completely rule out the possibility that this animation would be added to a future release of "The Phantom Menace" but the fact of the matter is this: there are currently no future releases of "The Phantom Menace" on the radar.

OK, apparently a puppet that hasn't been used in 7 years and was subsequently replaced by a CGI counterpart doesn't fall into your definition of "old" but it most certainly falls into mine. You said "Episode I DVD has a new CG Yoda in place of the stoned, godawful puppet." and that is flat-out incorrect. The Episode I DVD has always had the OLD PUPPET YODA and the Episode II and III DVDs will have the NEW CGI YODA and that's how it will be for the time being.

Sorry Terrell, but I agree, the text in your post does make it sound like that's a cap from a new Episode I DVD with Yoda being replaced.
Either way, there is no new Episode I DVD being released. Apologies for any confusion. It's just a digital replacement test being shown. However, let's do the math folks. When TPM is rereleased in the future, perhaps 2007, the puppet Yoda will have been replaced with the CG Yoda, and it's about as safe a bet as you can make.

I thought that the Episodes I and II dvd releases both featured the digital projection versions of those films, without any further modifications. I believe this time around, for Episode III, there were no actual differences between the film and digital prints. Guess that means that, for once, we'll be receiving the theatrical cut of a Star Wars film on DVD!

I've yet to hear of any changes/additions to Episode III, although I'd be surprised if there weren't at least one or two trivial ones. Lucas doesn't seem to be able to resist make a nip here and a tuck there.

Though I really wish he'd add a scene with Yoda talking to Qui-Gon. The scene where Yoda tells obi-wan about talking to him is pretty odd without seeing. And super disappointing after Lucas saying for years he'd explain the ghost thing in the final episode.

Wow, I didn't even realize that Lucas made those changes to TPM and AOTC for their dvds. In that case, I hope the rumored but unseen scene of Yoda landing on Dagobah gets inserted.

Another AotC DVD change was Jango Fett's jetpack misfiring right before Mace takes him out. During the commentary, Lucas says one day he'll get around to adding a misfire effect for that bit and then is surprised to see that the effects team has already done it for this release.

Also, in AOTC, Anakin's confession to Padme about killing the Tuskens is extended a little. The line, (paraphrasing), "I'm a Jedi, I should be better than this" was not in the theatrical exhibitions I saw. Funny thing is, the "I'm a Jedi" audio clip was used in the trailer.
