Anchor Bay had a copy of this at the "Rue-Morgue Festival of Fear," in Toronto, this year. I attended the con, and was able to take a look at the book. It looks like it's of the same quality of the original and everyone should be satisfied with it. I didn't smell it though. Of course, I'll be buying one.

Well, I certainly wouldn't expect a book bound in human flesh and inked in blood to exactly smell like a summer garden. My guess is that "The Smell" is probably intentional.

to answer some questions...

The Smell: I have the first book of the dead and I could understand some people's complaints. I picked it off the shelf today and it doesn't really smell anymore. The Book of the Dead 2 is even smellier than I remember the first book being. But I'm sure in time it will not smell anymore. I really could care less, but I thought I'd mention it because reading these boards for several years now, many people were seriously upset about it.

The Plastic Sleeve: The Book of the Dead 2 has a plastic sleeve the DVD slides into. It doesn't have a flap you have to lift to get the dvd out, so we should have no scratching problems.

How I got It So Early: I live in New York. There are several stores here in the city that routinely break street date. I do visit them on occasion, but even I was surprised that the store I went to had this so early. Like WEEKS!

The Scream And The Battery Issue: The scream is a generic scream that I used to have in a bloody axe keychain. When you hear the scream... you probably have heard it before from a toy or something. There is no way you could replace the battery in this thing without taking it all apart. The book is glued together so you'd have to break the seals to change the battery. No luck there.

I still haven't watched the features yet, but the print of the movie looks better than I can remember it ever looking.

Any other questions....
I'm here

So, any reviews yet? What is the difference between the BotD version and the older THX version from AB? Any video/audio quality difference? Extras?

My question would be: is the commentary that's on the previous version on this one? Cause that commentary totally validated that purchase for me. Classic Raimi and Campbell.

I could swear that the previous Book of the Dead went for $15 at most stores a couple of years ago. I had bought an extra copy hoping it would be worth something, but I barely made my money back on Ebay (now they appear to be going for $30-$40 new). Oh well.

Can anyone guess what the probable price will be on the store shelves? Is the DDD price the best we think we'll get?

And by the way, I LOVE the smell of Evil Dead Book of the Dead Editions....especially in the morning.

I'm gonna sound stupid, but I haven't read much about the new EDII.

Are there any new features or is it only worth getting because of the BotD cover?

I know they say it's a DIVIMAX edition....but I'm curious how much it's really improved or different.

There are some screenshots that compare it to the older version here:

Yeah, screens look nice...I'll probably get it, but who knows. MY current release seems to be fine...but I like the books, maybe I'll wait until they release Army Of Darkness in a special package...I thought I heard they were.

Anchor Bay is apparently releasing a two-pack of Evil Dead I/II BOTDs on Nov 22. Don't know if this was mentioned in this thread already. I just saw a listing at BestBuy.com for this (doesn't mention BOTD editions specifically, but it only makes sense):

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....uct&id=1480453

I don't see any reason for them not to do an AoD BOTD edition, so I think we're guaranteed a 3-pack in the near future... I'll probably stick with my current "regular" editions, as I have a paralyzing fear of getting my discs scratched
