DiviMax refers solely to the video transfer having originated in High Def and then downconverted for DVD. Even the very first DiviMax release, Manhunter, had only a DD 2.0 track. Other releases since then have also lacked DTS (e.g., Children of the Corn, Creeshow 2).

IMHO, this is only worth it for the novelty aspect of the packaging. This edition seems to only add one new featurette not found on the previous edition, and from how it is described in the DVD Authority review, it's more like a narrated photo gallery (which doesn't sound too hot). The new transfer seems both better and worse (depending on the scene), plus it is framed differently, so I don't quite know what to make of it (so Sam Raimi supervised the transfer, apparently ... I'm not sure if Robert Zemeckis supervised the BTTF trilogy transfers). I haven't watched my current edition in a while, but I recall being quite happy with the image. The sound mix on the previous edition was also quite capable (this was a low budget film, after all). So IMHO this new BotD is only worth it for the new packaging. Plus, its a little too pricey for my liking nowadays ... guess we'll get a better idea of whether it's really worth it when more people get their hands on it

The "Back to the Future" trilogy transfers weren't ever supervised by Robert Zemeckis. They were initially supervised by some Universal technician and "BTTF" co-writer/producer Bob Gale had to come in and supervise the transfer on the V2 versions. This new "Evil Dead 2" transfer, on the other hand, is supervised by Sam Raimi himself. There's a world of difference there.

I received mine a few days ago. Pretty cool except that they decided to put the security strip on the back page of the booklet instead of on the rubber flesh. So of course, removing it stripped away some of the paper on the back page.

I got mine from DDD today, and there wasn't a security strip in sight, thank god. And the book hardly stunk at all. I REALLY had to get up close and take a big ole whiff....I was flying high for a few seconds after that, though

Hmmm, I guess I'll make my decision before the end of the DDD sale. I'm a sucker for the new packaging, but it's not really a necessity for me.

Is the disc easy to remove from the sleeve?

It's very easy to remove.

Could the battery be replaced or is it sealed in?

Sealed.

well, that sucks. no replacing battery if it dies or leaks.

The disc is stored in the same type of sleeve as last time. Only this time they put it over top of the flap, so it shouldn't scrach up the disc. Or will it?

That is my only concern about this set. If you can remove it scratch free, I'll get it. But if not, I'll wait until they eventually release it in a keep case.

here's what I want to know. Will the two-pack in November be BOTH book of the dead editions together or what? Should I get a used book of the dead and get evil dead 2 this week, or just wait and get both later IF that's what it is?

I've taken the disc out of the BotD 2 a few times, and have not seen one scratch of any size show up. I would not worry about it.

Best Buy has a deal this week where you can get both BOTDs for $30. Not a bad price at all if you don't already have the first one.

books pretty much the same size...the cardboard packaging around it is a little different...now that I have it in my hands I'm slightly disappointed. The first book of the dead was much cooler, with a booklet and a little bit more input from people other than tom sullivan...even the new bonus feature on the disc is mainly tom sullivan...there doesn't seem to be much in contribution from sam raimi or bruce campbell other than the new transfer...also this one seems a little flimsier...anyone agree?
