At that price I will save my old DVD's for the trailers and buy the new ones for the improved transfer.

I'm suspicious of the screenshots...how do we know R2 had the same original transfer R1 had?

Apart from the usual PAL / NTSC differences (NTSC = fewer data lines, PAL = 4% speed up), I'd be very suprised to see that the transfer quality between the two old releases were vastly different. The same cut was used in both the UK and the US, both were released by Tristar (who usually use the same transfer across the board), both had virtually the same extras (even down to the same menu system).
The above screenshots were taken with PowerDVD's screengrab, and were not enhanced in any way. I just cropped the picture to remove the top / bottom black lines put in by PowerDVD.

The transfer in the screen shots looks nice and all. Definitely more natural; too much purple in the previous R2 release. Not sure how the previous R1 compares. But I'm still unconvinced that this is really worth it. Had they really put solid effort into it, gave Ghostbusters II some real attention, then yes. Obviously. (I know, I know--old arguments.) I just don't see that this is really anything special.

It's going to be $12.99 at Circuit City next week. You can pick it up in the store or buy something else to get it over $25 and get free shipping.

The transfers, judging by those screenshots look very solid and look better than the now OOP seperate editions. I see this, though, as just an upgrade for fans and the studio over those OOP seperate editions. It's an even better situation for the studio, both Ghostbusters packed together and not everyone has it on dvd. So this will make a dvd collector foam from the wallet, and fans very happy.
Why couldn't they just use the plain, Ghostbusters logo in black on one side of the outer packaging and on the other side the Ghostbusters 2 logo in black. And have what would make for better artwork for a 2-disc set of both movies. The, "he slimed me" design just doesn't work for my tastes. They did that with the Karate Kid, I loved all the original dvd artwork for all three movies, and than they had to make it seem fresh, so they chose flash over substance.

What (if any) online retailers sell the Japanese Superbit version? None of the foreign dvd sites (that I know of) have it even listed (like yesasia/hkflix/etc...).

That is the way they have been for me for new releases. But I am sure YMMV.
