I'm not sure how big some of the Warner titles will be 9at least wehn compared to even a marginal new release). When WB first started doing the 2-disc sets, they rolled out The Right Stuff, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Amadeus, True Romance, and Unforgiven all on the same day. In fact, they historically tend to put out their 2-disc sets in bunches. Granted how popular any catalog title is will vary, but there's probably not a huge difference.

I thought Batman Begins was coming out the same day as well.

does the current version of "forever" seem cropped to anyone else? the opening credits for instance, are at the very edge of the screen in the dvd, but on my vhs, (and on the tv version), there is more space.

TNAJason 07-20-05 08:12 PM

October 25th,after years of waiting I'll finally be able to get my hands on the SE Box Set. B&R suck but I'm a completist in Comic Book Movies, and I loved Batman,so it's a no-brainer.

TNAJason 07-20-05 08:30 PM

Oh and can you tell us the price for this at Columbia House? I need to start saving up for October 25th and need to know how much.... Plus there's prob other people wanting to know.......

DVDOtaku13 07-20-05 09:41 PM

The price has yet to be listed(but then how can you pre-order it?). I sure hope an official announcement is made soon with all the specs and details for each film, I can't wait!

If I must get B&R with the set, so be it. I haven't seen it in a long while, after watching the others I could use a good laugh. -rolleyes-

Skoobooz 07-20-05 09:42 PM

I think it said the list price was to be about $79.95.

That would make sense...but still no word yet.

But hey, I know I'm buying it all. Just seems odd.

I dont think casual buyers ever buy box sets that cost $60-70 (as 4 batflicks likely will), no matter how many new releases are available that day.

I am also planning on buying every release you just mentioned. An expensive day indeed.

Wow, didn't realize so much was coming out on October 25. Really is going to be an expensive day. Eight-disc Batman set, Batman Begins, and possibly both editions of Titanic for me. Releasing all those big-name titles on the same day does seem odd, though. Would make much more sense from a marketing point of view to stretch them out through the month. But whatever. However they choose to do it, I'm there.

off subject...but why both titanic editions

Just a guess, but people would likely buy both versions in case one has extras the other doesn't. I don't have them but the LOTR trilogy DVDs are that way, correct?

jmj713 07-22-05 11:22 AM

Nick, the problem with Titanic, as opposed to LOTR, is that there will be only additional extras, not different, on the 4-disc version.

Maxflier 07-22-05 02:07 PM

Looks like the 18th according to this:

The Monkees 07-22-05 02:38 PM

October 18th would be much better!

Okay.

With Titanic, that could be considered a same day double dip then, for anyone who wants every extra.

I'm still wondering if that "fanboy" extras list created for Batman long ago will bear any similarity to this upcoming release.

No, you would just buy the bigger set and have all the extras.

CertifiedTHX 07-22-05 06:02 PM

Had this nearly complete last night, but a lightning storm forced me to close down before I could finish....

Exactly. I do love Titanic that much. One of my all-time favorites.

If the music videos for "My Heart Will Go On" and "Southampton" were included on the lesser edition, but not in the deluxe set--and somehow I can see that as plausible--there would be no question. I would buy both. And I expect many others would, too.

I know we were told the deluxe set would contain everything from the lesser edition. But we were also told the deluxe set would boast four discs, and now there are doubts (still waiting anxiously for further news on that). Just allowing for the possibility. Besides, two editions of Titanic, even slightly differing, would look great on my shelves. :)

Correct. The 2-disc theatrical releases and the 4-disc extended cuts contain different extras. The music video for Enya's "May It Be" appears on the 2-disc of Fellowship of the Ring, but not the 4-disc.

But that was still a situation in which there were supposed to be a different set of extras on each set; with Titanic, it will allegedly have the same set of extras, but the 3/4 disc version will have more. They made a point of stating that at the mostly-pointless press conference a few months ago.

Back on topic: The Digital Bits is now reporting that both Batman Begins and the four Batman SEs will be coming out on October 18th.

"Warner Home Video will debut Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants on 10/11, with Batman Begins following on 10/18. Also, look for the new Batman live action special editions (all four films) to be released on 10/18 as well."

So do I! I even found that VHS collectors set, and replaced the tapes with the DVD, so when I go to watch it, taking it out of that case makes it all the more special.

While it would be interesting to see a box of all five films, that would be unlikely if WB and the filmmakers want to maintain the idea that "Begins" is completely separate from the others.

Personally, I wouldn't like that at all, and I highly doubt that WB would do that. Besides, there will always be the inevitable second Batman set, with Batman Begins and its eventual sequels.

I'm confused. I know that Warner Brothers has plans to release all 4 movies as Special Editions October 18th, and Batman Begins on that same day. But, are there any plans that anyone knows of, where a Box Set of all 5 films might viably happen.

It won't happen. The first four films are supposed to be separate entities from Batman Begins.
