Sweet!

Big Worms 08-17-05 03:57 PM

Nice artwork for the box set. I just don't think I like the date being on the box.

fumanstan 08-17-05 04:12 PM

Box isn't too shabby. Not a big fan of the silver border around the logo though.

reubs82 08-17-05 04:27 PM

Who would be the contact person to begin lobbying for a cover change to what the UK is getting and possibly getting the dates off of the box. We can sit here and whine about it, but until WB knows what we think about it it'll stay the same. ANyone have any ideas?

DVDOtaku13 08-17-05 10:48 PM

Yep, I knew it. Once again R1 DVD consumers get screwed again. While we get saddled with substandard and often craptacular artwork, the rest of the world gets either decent or fabulous looking cover art. The R2 consumer markets(UK and Japan) almost always have more visually compelling DVD covers, I'd say 99% of the time, yet I do not know why that is.

Japan especially, and it's not just the covers. While we're stuck with bare-bones releases of movies like Kill Bill, they get the uber special edition box sets which include the uncut film, extra material, a limited T-shirt, and such. We get the Alien Quadrilogy set, while they get the option of a replica Alien head to put all the discs in!

I can't explain, but for some inexplicable reason American DVD releases, for lack of a better phrase....................."freaking suck".

Yeah I agree. Looks like Region 2 gets them and we don't :(

yah...that looks a lot better...

Fincher Fan 08-18-05 04:22 AM

It's settled - I'm getting the R2 editions. Wonder what the box looks like?

RockStrongo 08-18-05 08:33 AM

Well, im just getting Batman and I like the Batman R1 cover better than R2.

its just the sequels that suck, but come on, if ANY movies should have the sucky floating head covers, its these pieces of trash. ;)

Geofferson 08-18-05 08:42 AM

Wow - I like the UK covers better as well.

With the release date only 2 months away, it's going to be too late to lobby for any sort of change. These are already manufactured and ready to go...

Maxflier 08-18-05 09:12 AM

I actually think it is fitting to have the date on the box like that because the series was born with the great Tim Burton original in 1989 and faced a gruesome death in 1997 at the hands of Shumacher. It's like a headstone of sorts.

Deco King 08-18-05 10:23 AM

When oh when is the Batman TV series likely to appear on DVD?? I presume that the Batman TV Series non appearance on DVD must be due to a legal copyright wrangle between Fox who made the TV series and Warner Bros,?

I'd like to see Warner Bros do the remastering because theydo such a superb job on the technical side, and the extras will be great! There would be some impressive stuff great cameo roles by Talulah Bankhead and Eartha Kitt and Julie Newmar, Cesar Romero et al etc.

That's a good one

QuikSilver 08-18-05 11:50 AM

The Region 2 covers look so much cooler.

Shagrath 08-18-05 12:08 PM

If the price is about the same, I'm definately going with the R2 boxset over the US one.

John_Shil 08-18-05 12:55 PM

Unless I'm mistaken, I've been hearing that the R2 "Batman Returns" is cut, as compared to the R1 uncut version. Of course, I can't be sure, but I could've sworn I've seen this several places.

majorjoe23 08-18-05 01:13 PM

That's possible, I remember a headbutt or two in Batman Returns, aren't those usually no nos in R2?

RocShemp 08-18-05 10:07 PM

Uhg. The R1 boxset and individual R1 releases all have ugly covers compared to the UK releases. Like others have said, that silver border and font just doesn't work. And boxset cover looks lazily made.

Jericho 08-18-05 10:24 PM

Well the R1 releases are the movie posters, but still I gotta say I prefer the R2s

digitalfreaknyc 08-19-05 12:28 AM

Just watched a bit of Batman's premiere in HD. Well...it wasn't in the proper aspect ratio...so...who cares. it was full screen stretched. :(

DVDOtaku13 08-19-05 12:37 AM

I really like the embossed look of the logos, gives them a slightly different look while virtually retaining the original artwork. It's so much better without the silver border, and the font doesn't look quite as stupid. And.............it's the LOGOS!!! What more could you ask for?

Someone elsewhere suggested the possibility that these R2 covers are actually also the real R1 keepcase cover inserts and that those others are merely the slipcase artwork. I doubt it, but one can hold out hope, can't they???

MasterofDVD 08-19-05 02:42 AM

Those R2 covers are way way better and I was even kinda digging the R1 covers there for a bit.

You must have been watching it on a 16:9 TV. I just tuned in, myself, on my 4:3, and noticed nothing special about it. Same open matte presentation I've seen ever since the theatrical experience in 1989.

(Well, not quite the same. TNT allotted only two-and-a-half hours for a film that runs over two; edits were made all over. The Joker's "conversation" with the charred corpse was cut altogether.)

Anyway, catching those first few moments during the police raid in the Axis chemical plant inspired feelings of nostalgia. Great as Batman Begins is, still love Burton's Batman. It's the version of the Dark Knight that I grew up with. More or less (came out in my early teens). Going to love owning it finally on DVD. :)
