No he said he was 10 when he saw Batman & Robin in the theatre and that his mother didn't allow him to watch Batman Returns until he was 12.

Got to watch the first Batman disc last night...transfer is pretty free from defects and grain, but rather soft looking. There's virtually no difference (at least to my untrained ear) between the 5.1 and DTS tracks for the first film - I think fans anxious to hear the first film in DTS are going to be underwhelmed. Burton's commentary is surprisingly good, though - he talks about how a movie changes from what's on the written page to what gets put on screen (although sadly he doesn't go into a lot of detail...you get the feeling he wants to rant, but holds back) and tells a neat story about how Jack Pallance intimidated him on the set.

Is the 5.1 track for the first film any better than the old snapper?

The old one had the score in mono to fill the surrounds.

It's really simple math. Many women I know age the same way.

So no trailers? It would have been nice to see the Batman trailer again.

Yeah, there's trailers.

Any news yet on a DVD release date for the original 1966 BATMAN TV Series? I believe it's non appearance has something to do with a copyright legal wrangle between Fox and Warner Bros? I'd love to have this series in my DVD collectoion with the superb Cesar Romero as the Joker etc!

Curiously, we are four days from the 18th, and Best Buy still has nothing on their web site about the Anthology set. They have entries for the separate releases only. The Anthology set has been listed at Circuit City for weeks now. Would have thought Best Buy would be allowing pre-orders long before this point. Bound to appear by the end of the weekend.

I'm more curious if Wal-Mart will stock the single releases. If so, I'll pick up 'Batman' and maybe 'Batman Returns' at midnight, when I pick up 'Batman Begins'.

CertifiedTHX 10-14-05 09:27 PM

Best Buy comes through at last:

Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology 1989 - 1997.

Good price, too. Even a little better than I hoped.

$57.99 a good price?!?

The Valeyard 10-14-05 09:36 PM

You know it's like $48.99 at Target, don't you?

That's a good price.

gryffinmaster 10-14-05 10:10 PM

I have been waiting on these Batman DVDs for a loooooong time. I'm going to make a mad dash to CC the day it comes out during my lunch from work. :)

$48.99 (thought it was $49.99) is an excellent price - especially to price-match @ other locations.

Interestingly enough, FYE has the Anthology for $56.99 in-store. WHY in the hell is FYE beating BB prices on this?

My bad. It is $49.99.

I think I got the $48 from the BB price that proved false.

TNAJason 10-15-05 12:38 AM

Is the 49.99 price the in-store price?

bunkaroo 10-15-05 12:44 AM

I don't want to start any panic, but the store I get my releases from every Friday did not have the box, but they had some of the single releases. Not sure if that's anything to be concerned about.

yellowbedwetter 10-15-05 12:55 AM

maybe they aren't shipping a lot of the box sets, making them scarce. Perhaps anticipating the effect Batman and Robin will have on people wanting to buy all 4 at once.

The Monkees 10-15-05 01:12 AM

It would be cheaper if you want the first 3 movies to buy the box set and get rid of Batman & Robin then to buy the first 3 movies separetely. That's what I'm doing.

Nick Martin 10-15-05 01:26 AM

Exactly- think of "Batman & Robin" as a free disc, as that's what it works out to be if you purchased the first three on their own.

Besides, the movie may be one of the worst ever made (it's the worst movie I've ever seen) but I'll gladly watch the extras. Any sort of behind the scenes stuff for a film like that (elaborate costumes, effects, etc)I'll enjoy, even if the film itself never goes near my DVD player.

What I've been seeing from my retailers of choice was the MSRP. Compared to that, yes. I was hoping for a good $20 drop for release week. Compared to Target, no. But I don't care to shop there. Going to Best Buy for the newest release is a treat, and I love to indulge. Just my personal taste.

My guess is no...WB has been pushing the box in all of their ads, as that is likely the only way they will get rid of Batman & Robin.

And as for Tuesday's prices, it is very odd that Best Buy has what appears to be the worst price for this set (B&M and online). Also, as expected, they have a pretty awful price for the Batman Begins deluxe edition (something like $22.99, I think). Oh well...an extra six or seven dollars for the box set is worth it, seeing as how I've been looking forward to this set (or the concept of this set) since the original DVDs came out.

EDIT: Actually, on a separate note, it makes me wonder about the upcoming Buffy Complete Series set, in terms of Best Buy pricing. Amazon has it for $130 right now, and I was expecting that Best Buy would be the same on release week, but seeing the pricing difference on this box set makes me wonder....

To each his own, but I rather save $8.00 whenever I can. I have no issues buying from Target.

On any rate, I'm still deciding whether I want to buy the box set or just buy a couple of them individually and just sell off Batman & Robin.

gryffinmaster 10-15-05 11:20 AM

I have no issues buying from Target, either. If CC doesn't price match the box set, then Target will get my business.

It still looks like it is possible to get the boxed set and Batman Begins Deluxe for at least below $75 in-store, if you don't want to wait for Amazon's Super Saver Shipping.
