Yep, I see now. Damn, I was scared for a second :) For an odd reason the DTS symbol is blacked out but you can see the text that would be next to the symbol by comparing back covers.

Still a bit bummed that Begins gets no DTS though. :(

The VHS I got in November 1989 and every TV broadcast I've seen since have all had one Napier POV shot. I remember watching the VHS shortly after buying it, watching that scene, and immediately feeling like something was missing, like it had been cut short.

What do you all remember?

I wonder if the new DVD will have the scene where Vicki Vale picks the fabric out of her mouth after kissing the Joker's coat atop the cathedral at the end ("I LOOVVVE purple"). I don't remember if the VHS version had the quick clip, but I am pretty sure the bare bones DVD edition excluded it.

I have to say that for me, personally, it's NEVER been this many in the 4th quarter that I've been interested in. And we're not even to December in release announcements yet. I have about 10 titles in a month being released.

The scene was on the original VHS (I owned it), but I'm not sure about the widescreen version released later (I owned it, but never watched it). I have a feeling it's not because for some odd reason, on the original DVD the scene is there in the full screen version but not in the widescreen. I never saw the movie theatrically. Was it there when it played in theatres?

The original VHS also cut the line, "Where does he get those wonderful toys?" to "..Get those wonderful toys!" And on the trading card it had the whole line intact, so I was always like, "Wha?" I finally saw it on DVD, and both the widescreen and full screen versions have the entire line. Although, it was recently on TV (TBS, I think) and I happened to catch that scene, and the line was just, "...Get those wonderful toys!" again. Odd.

Man, I babble.

There are just two different takes used. The widescreen version is different from the full screen. no one is sure why. I know for years the VHS had her taking the lint out of her mouth. Cameron, there is no "line edit." They're both the same, line-wise.

The original VHS did not cut that line by the Joker. It's right there...and I had it for years. Same with the DVD. "Where does he..." is pretty buried in the mix. Listen closely. The only cut from this scene is apparently right after that when the joker looks at his goons and says "well don't just stand there. Go and ask him!"

All this talk about cut scenes and alternate takes and we can't see any of them because they won't be included....sucks doesn't it?

Been my complaint from the beginning.

"Well, don't just stand there--go and ask him!" was a line from the novel based on the film. It was never actually used. As far as I know, it was never even filmed and ultimately cut (unless someone has seen the original script and knows otherwise). Just one of those added touches in the book.

I know it was in the original book...and the original script. I was just told that it was in a trailer or something similar. I assumed it was filmed.

I may have misled by including Vale's quote of lubbing the purple regarding the edit. Sorry about that. I just remember the lint-fishing part being taken out. I always thought it was such an odd little moment, so I was anticipating it when I watched the DVD and realized it had been cut.

Thanks for the clarification...weird....I have not seen Batman since the week it came out on dvd...i purchased it, watched it and sold it....been waiting for a 2 discer ever since...It Came out when i Was a kid in theaters and i loved it...didn't do as much for me as a grown up...it will be nice to see with fresh eyes....i may get the old disc if I see it cheap just to watch the diffrent cuts.

Toxic Handshake 09-03-05 09:43 AM

If you look closely at the first Batman back cover and compare it to the other Batman back covers, it looks like the DTS logo is just missing. There is a blank space where the logo should be, and right beside that spot it says "DTS and the DTS Digital Surround Logo are trademarks of Digital Theater Systems Inc. Manufactured with DTS audio under licence from DTS." So someone must have just screwed up and forgot to stick in the DTS logo.

Just an FYI...Korea has the 4 discs on pre-order and they get the cool artwork with just the different emblems. And they're $13 each...if you're interested. ;)

Disc-Flipper 09-25-05 01:36 PM

I noticed there is no U2 "Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me" music video on the Batman Forever disc - crappy!

Edit: eeek. i don't think that was for me. Was it?

Movies-2-Go 09-25-05 06:48 PM

Anybody, know if any reviews are out on the SE discs? I'm still debating whether to double dip or not.
Thanks

digitalfreaknyc 09-25-05 08:32 PM

There won't be reviews for at least another week.

And ummm...no offense but what the hell are you confused about?? Isn't this a no-brainer?
