I didn't see it at my Walmart either, did find it at the local Fred Meyer (kind of a Target equivalent in the Northwest)

Oh boy, I had a very hard time trying to find the Batman Anthology box set today. I went to two WalMarts, and neither one of them bad the set. Heck, one of them didn't even get the four Batman flicks in stock at all (only Batman Begins). I went to Circuit City and Best Buy and they were sold out of the box set, and I was told they only got about two in stock at all.

I went to Target, and they had one more on the shelf, and they told me they only had two in stock. Lucky for me though, Target had the lowest price also. I also picked up Batman Begins Deluxe Edition, since it was only $19.99 there.

I love how they have this box set also. It really fits the series in my opinion, and it just looks great.

Just finished watching the Batman SE.

To those with a killer subwoofer and DTS, you are in for a treat!

The Meseum sequence with the Prince music litterally shook the shit out of my house. Same with the explosions towards the end with the Batwing firing at the Joker.

To Whom Ever Did The Re-Mix on this dvd; you are the all mighty!

ShagMan 10-18-05 04:59 PM

the walmart target in my area didn't have anthology boxes nor returns, forever, & robin...only target had Batman.

Artman 10-18-05 05:03 PM

So, no slipcovers for these eh? Kinda surprising but I'm happy I was able to get em at least.

Mine didn't - unless you're refering to the comic book.

Mine came with a catelogue of Batman items and a $20 rebate ad for Symantec.

I FUCKING HATE BEST BUY.

I just walked 25 minutes to the closest one and they sold out of the Anthology this morning. They said they only got 12 in stock and were sold out within an hour. Also, every best buy in manhattan is sold out and they don't know when they'll get any more in.

Buy it online. Problem solved, no more crying needed :)

If you find the desired price online, Deep Discount will price match but you will need to send them an email and you likely won't have the box in your hands for at least 2 weeks.

Maxflier 10-18-05 07:12 PM

Picked up the only Anthology copy on the shelf today at the Target here.

Nesbit 10-18-05 07:37 PM

Went to Walmart. They didn't have the anthology OR any of the single editions of the Batman films except Begins. Can't believe how little stores stocked up on the old Batman films.

conscience 10-18-05 08:04 PM

I also had a no go on Batman & Batman Returns at Wal-Mart. They said they hadn't gotten their stock in of the first four titles. I didn't call bullshit, because I searched high and low in that store for the two titles.

Although - the employee was trying to pass off Begins as the 'first Batman' which I kept explaining: of course it was in time structure of films - but not release date. I want the Nicholson/Keaton/De Vito Batmans. Hello. I had to show him the best buy ad (used it to get Lebowski price match) with the picture of the SE batman's to confirm the movies existed.

I got the last one they had at the Bestbuy on Queens Blvd. And I was lucky to get that one because it was obviously hidden by someone. I went to Target to get the Deluxe Batman Begins because I have a giftcard there, and they were all sold out of both. Did these stores not realize that this would be a pretty good seller??

DavidH 10-18-05 08:51 PM

I went to Target around 5:30 this evening and there were only two anthology box sets left when I arrived.

Nesbit 10-18-05 08:58 PM

So would something like this be Warner Bros fault for not producing enough or the retail chains for not purchasing enough? This is the worst 'Event' release I've ever seen.

nightwing82 10-18-05 10:42 PM

I bought the last box set at my Target around 7pm tonight. They also had a single disc of Batman Returns and Batman & Robin left.

CertifiedTHX 10-18-05 11:10 PM

Glad I'm not the only one who has had trouble with this. Neither Best Buy nor Circuit City had any copies of the Anthology set. (For that matter, they didn't have much of the separate releases, either.) Might just order it. Prefer to make my own selection, but that proves difficult when no one stocks it, or at least not enough of it.

I agree, this is a terrible "event" release. For how hyped we get on here, I get the feeling sometimes that we are a very small community, and that the world "out there" doesn't exactly see something like this the same way. How many people actually go out of their way to keep up with the latest DVD news? We expected a big store display; all we found was a pittance.

I suspect the majority of consumers...
  • aren't particularly aware of the Anthology set
  • have no real concept that Titanic WAS going to be released as a be-all, end-all edition
  • couldn't care less that the 77/80/83 versions of the Star Wars trilogy will never find themselves on DVD (or any future format)
Geeks find these things important; Average Joe Six-Pack does not.

yellowbedwetter 10-18-05 11:18 PM

actually, my Best Buy was actually busier than a usual Tuesday, with a lot of people browsing around the Batman Begins and Anthology displays. I got the feeling it might actually be MORE popular than some had expected.

Rogue588 10-18-05 11:22 PM

I'm thinking the WB [or retailers] knew how shitty the final two Batflicks were and figured people wouldn't want to get stuck with having to buy 'em.

That's the ONLY possible reason I could think of for the fact that I couldn't find it ANYWHERE.

fumanstan 10-18-05 11:38 PM

I went to my Target around 7:30 PM and didn't see any copies of the Batman Anthology on the shelf, or any copies left of the Batman Begins Deluxe Edition. The only single releases of the SE Batman films I saw was the first one as well. I walked around, looked at a few other things in the store, and when i came back 2 copies of the Anthology were put on the shelf so I grabbed one. I'm happy enough.

Nick Martin 10-19-05 01:09 AM

CertifiedTHX, as usual you are absolutely correct.

I went to Future Shop to get all the movies- "Begins" was at a 1 day only sale price with an exclusive slip cover, but when I asked where the Anthology was, NO ONE in the store knew it existed- until they checked the computer system and found that while it's in there, the store never received any except for six or so copies of "Returns"....however, that worked in my favor- as Wal Mart had many copies of the Anthology for $10 less than Future Shhop would have had it for! :)

LivingINClip 10-19-05 12:17 PM

Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Sam Goodys none have have this set in Danville, KY.
